Original '59 gauges and Vortec motor
I am a total newbie at this, but I am starting to rebuild a '59 Apache. I am going to be swapping a 2010 GMC motor, tranny into it and would like to re-use the original gauges.
Can this be done and if so how do you do it? Thanks for any help and advice. |

Re: Original '59 gauges and Vortec motor
Check the engine forum, several how to threads. The coolant and oil pressure are easy hiles, threads, fittings etc and the speedo will require a Cable X box at $300 off the VSS

Re: Original '59 gauges and Vortec motor
and i recommend converting the amp gauge to a volt guage as a couple of us have done
read my thread on how i did it the gauge currently shows zero volts, not a 30 amp discharge

you will need a 30ohm fuel sender to work with the gauge, oil is ok. temp will work with some creative plumbing and as stated the amp gauge needs to be converted, if the conversion is beyond what you think you can do there is a guy on the forum that does that type of work. Tom Garris at www.ClassicGaugeandCluster.com he does very nice work There are also modern gauge clusters that have the old feel but new style instrumenting. They do get a bit pricey but the ease of install compensates for the cost New vintage USA is the one I like. |

Re: Original '59 gauges and Vortec motor
Thanks for the help guys. As much as I don't want to spend the money I am leaning towards getting one of the retro gauges from New Vintage. We'll see.
