Registered six offender

Just picked up a 1963 Chevy it has a straight six in it and everything seems to be stock. Just wondering what you guys are doing to spice these things up a bit. Not looking to have a race motor but if like to get a bit more power out of this thing. Also not sure witch six is in it.

Re: Registered six offender

4 inch sidecovers and you'll have a 230, 6 inch side covers and you have a 292. For what your desiring....4 barrel, headers, hei and 5 speed would be optimum.

Re: Registered six offender

You should also add an electronic distributor or a pertronix module
Do a search for tricked out six

Its likely what your referring to a half leaf spring is actually overload springa . they attach near the rear of the frame and the end will bump stop against a metal attached between the rear housing and trailing arms. Heres pictures of the souped up 250 six in my 66 GMC. Its a 68 250 bored .040 offenhauser 4 bbl intake & valve cover. Hedders and a RV cam. Hei ignition. Backed by a powerglide trans.

FWIW, Here's a picture of my 292 in my 66 chevy. Bone stock with a 600 edelbrock, clifford intake, clifford headers, and HEI. Pulls perrty darn good for being as worn out as it is. And here are a couple performance videos.

Re: Registered six offender

Thank you guys very much for your responses also I was wondering if I take out that extra spring will it drop my truck or would the drop be too much without a notch? I also just emailed pertronix to see what set up they would recommend for my truck.

It shouldn't drop the truck. As far as pertronix goes all you have to do is call your local Napa or auto zone and tell them you want a Pertronix for a 250 and it'll fit your distributor just fine. And here's an HEI I would recommend. I've been using it and it has work great. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVY-INLINE...a9fe0a&vxp=mtr

No no no. lol This HEI is a distributor and has everything you need. The pertronix is a replacement for your points distributor. An HEI is a whole different setup. That hei will bolt in and all you'll need is new plug wires and to hook your wires on.

Re: Registered six offender

I understand what the hei is I've used them in other sbc builds I've done in the past. I've just never used the pertronix module. So I can use my stock distributor and replace the points with the pertronix module? Also if running the pertronix module I'm assuming I still need to run the coil? Where as the hei has the coil in the distributor?

Yes you will have to buy the flame thrower coil as well that pertronix sells. The HEI I listed a link for you on ebay has the coil in it. It is like a SBC hei but a 6 cylinder version.

If you look in the pic I posted on post 7 you can see the space between the spring and the mating pad. The spring should not be touching the pad on the rear end unless the truck is very loaded. There should be some space between the auxiliary spring and the pad. They only function as an overload spring when the truck has reached an "overload" weight. They just unbolt from the frame. The pads they mate too would require the trailing arms to be dropped to remove. If you don't plan to use them I'd stick them on the classifieds as they are not rare, but desired by a lot of people. I have them on both of my 63's.

Also....3 springs would be the 60-66 set up, they went to a single spring I believe in 67 and they will interchange.

Torque limiter so the engine torque does not rip the driver side motor mount apart...

Re: Registered six offender

So this is my motor. Not sure what it is. The valve cover is shorter then 6" but the fuel pump is located where the 292 pump is and it has the 292 water jacket.
Also where the red circle is, there is a pretty bad exhaust leak. Does anyone know where I can find that gasket?

Re: Registered six offender

The gasket should come with the exhaust manifold gasket set.

You have a 292. Great engine for spicing up. I've done several tests on my 292's so hit me up anytime you need info.
