87 exhaust manifold torque value question, inner vs outter
Done some research and i have torque wrenches so why not do it right..
Looks to read that my 87 v10 5.7 exhaust manifold to block torque values are 26 ft lbs on the two inner tube bolts and 20 ft lbs on the remaining bolts. this doesn't seem right to me..first are those intact the correct values? 2nd why aren't they torqued evenly.. don't want any leaks so figured I'd ask! thanks |

I've never torqued and never had leaks. Just snug em up and give it a bit more.

Re: 87 exhaust manifold torque value question, inner vs outter
I do not torque my exhaust bolts, I just use my 3/8" ratchet and the a socket, with no problems for many years. I do however use teflon tape on the threads so that they do not back out after tightening them. It works pretty well and when you want the bolts out, they come out.

Re: 87 exhaust manifold torque value question, inner vs outter
The torque values sound about right 3/8 bolts can go up to like 40. its not going to hurt any thing at those values. 87 v10? 5.7 Chevy has no V10 Eng. or does that mean something else?

V10 is the designation for 4 wheel drive (half ton) squarebody from 87-90. New body style kept the c/k designation.

If that is factory specs it should work but the factory also used locking tabs that get thrown away a lot of times. Personally I have never reused those things.
