Refurbing '75 shell top.
I need to repaint the shelltop for the '75 Blazer and I have all the new seals etc ready for installing. When I took a close look at it it appears to have been painted with something like textured liner over the original finish. Originally it could have been smooth. Liner is kind of peeling off in areas (see pics). the rest of the truck is getting a new paint job with white side bars or i'd leave it as is. Options are:
1. Try to sand / peel recent finish and repaint well. 2. Just slam some liner back over it and make do as it will only be on in the winter anyway when i don't drive it much 3. Something else i hadn't considered - (suggestions?) |

Re: Refurbing '75 shell top.
I'd want to sand that out, if it's separating in spots I'd want to know how much of the rest of it is loose. Most guys smooth it and don't bother to try to recreate the texture. If you want to try to make it presentable on a budget, you could sand it and paint it at home - either sanded smooth, or spray on a coat or aerosol bed-liner to give it some texture and paint over it. Satin white over the bedliner texture would look similar to how it was new. Or take it to your painter and let him prep it and paint it the same color as the side "bar".
