Is this right?
I finally got around to refurbishing my wheels on my 87. Ordered some trim rings about a year ago from summit. I guess I should have tried them on at the time. Is there supposed to be that big gap between the beauty ring, and the wheel? Looks like there is about a 1 inch gap in there. And as you can see, the trim rings are close the rim at the top. Is this what's supposed to be going on? Or did I get a cheapo set or something? Maybe someone can post a pic of what the trim rings are supposed to look like.
Here is a pic of one of the wheels with the beauty ring off. |

Re: Is this right?
Nope; that's not right. Should have more of the slots exposed.
It's like the inner diameter is too small. K

Re: Is this right?
What vehicle/wheels should I sell them for? I paid $60 for them on Summit Racing, so I'm sure I could get $30-$40 on ebay since they're still basically new. 3 of them never even been on a wheel. But I wouldn't want to sell them to someone else who didn't know how they were going to be. There must be a vehicle/wheel type that they'd fit better.

Re: Is this right?
Corvette rally.
If you put the name Corvette on there they'll sell like hotcakes. K

Re: Is this right?
To be clear, do you have knowledge that they'll fit corvette rally wheels correctly? Perhaps you can tell from the pics. Don't want to sell them to someone else, and then they have the same problem I did.

Re: Is this right?
Actually - I'm not totally sure.
I have the Corvette style rings on my truck rallys but they fit better than what you have shown in your original pic. K

Re: Is this right?
Well I can say that its a real pain in the... rump trying to find a good quality set. They seem to want to sell junk for $60 plus shipping these days.
I'm looking for the deep set, I think they call them 3" wide sets. However, I'd like the one that has no lip at the edge. Where the metal just rolls on over, with no crease or dividing line of any kind. If such a thing exists. Not sure if it does. And that fits well, and doesn't seem like its removing some of the steel from the rim when you're putting it on. Is anyone aware of someplace that sells such a set? I'm on my second set of lousy ones and its getting a bit frustrating. No tire shops want to carry this kind of thing anymore cause the trucks are so old and aren't what they see in bulk anymore. So you pretty much just have to order them and hope for the best. |

Re: Is this right?
I think the difference in the beauty rings stems from their use on both stock wheels and rally wheels. My 83 C20 has stock steel wheels and factory beauty rings. Not all beauty rings are the same dimension - some are wider/deeper than others, based on the wheel they were designed for.

Tucson - can you post a pic? I am interested to see what you have. Not sure I follow what you are saying, based on the following:

Re: Is this right?
Sidebar: I never noticed, until just now, that the truck rally was either 15x7 or 15x8 based on tire size.
I historically have referred to the 15x7 as a "van rally" and thought all C/K got the 15x8 which is, apparently, incorrect. K

Re: Is this right?
Keith and I run the same style.
I got mine from Jae Eagle. Kit # 4523 http://www.jaeeagle.com/product/335/..._sku_only=4523 (ring is not seated all the way in the off truck pic) |

Re: Is this right?
I'm trying to figure out if the pic on their site is somehow deceiving. It looks like there is some kind of lip, around the edge of the ring. The area closest to the tire. However in the pics that you show of your wheels, there doesn't appear to be any such lip. Its like a small indention about 1/4"-1/2" away from the edge of the ring. Is that there on your set? The pics make it somewhat difficult to tell.

Re: Is this right?
I'm thinking that they used some sort of a standard picture. I noticed that too when looking up the link last night from my records to post here. Mine don't have that lip...

Re: Is this right?
Was that the same pic they had when you ordered them? If so, weren't you at least a little irritated that you did not receive what they showed in the pic?
Cause with my luck, if I order those, that's what I'll get. Even though 2 of you are saying that's not what came in your box. How long ago did you order them? |

I noticed you said that its based on tire size. I could go check my tire sizes and maybe find out the width of my rims. I know they are the correct sizes because I told them at the tire shop that I wanted the OEM tire size put on the truck, and they looked it up, and made sure that's what they put on. |

Re: Is this right?
Or maybe there is another way to tell your wheel's width? I've looked at them pretty closely but I didn't see the width stamped in there anywhere.

Lay them across the back and the face of the wheel so that they nest in the outer surface of the bead seat. Measure between them through the pilot hole and subtract .5" (you should get about 8.5" for an 8" wheel). K

Re: Is this right?
Here are original truck rings on my 75. Ignore the center cap, it's a late model cap.

Re: Is this right?
83 C20, stock 16" steel wheel, beauty ring. They are factory, just not a GM factory.
I have seen several 80s era trucks with this set up, so maybe they just had the aftermarket bug. I think my beauty rings and dog dish hub caps are beautiful. Last edited by tucsonjwt; 05-04-2015 at 10:56 PM. |

I wonder if your best bet would be to go to a local swap meet so you can try some out in person. K
