whats missing???
since ive rebuilt a 6 banger, im sure T.J. is proud of that!!!. anyway ive noticed most to all 6 cylinder trucks have no fan shroud, even some of the survivors!!! what gives. so my question is "whats missing"? did they all get broken? or did some models just didnt come with a shroud?

Re: whats missing???
Most did not come with a shroud. Fairly rare as you know. I've only seen 3 that I can document as having a plastic fan shroud. I'm still looking for a good used or NOS shroud

Re: whats missing???
According to the parts book the shroud was available 1963-1966 but the only trucks I've ever seen them in were 4x4s and all were 1966. My two 292 1963s , one with AIR never had shrouds . Your suburban , your adding AIR to correct ? You then automatically get the 4 core rad and my guess is the shroud would have been in place from the factory had it come that way originally. The second way you got a shroud was with the "Heavy Duty Cooling option , with that option you got the 3 groove cast water pump pulley, 5 blade fan, 4 core rad and shroud. All these so far were 292 trucks. This option was stated on the SPID sheet as "VO5B4 Heavy Duty Cooling EQ"

Re: whats missing???
Excellent question . All I can say is, all six cylinder trucks had those brackets except the few that used the small narrow radiator that used the spacer. My belief is the fan pulled air through the radiator better with the side brackets and top bracket with the seals. Most cars didn't need a shroud with the 6 . I've never had a truck that really needed one either.

Re: whats missing???
A properly tuned a 6 cylinder can almost run with no fan at all. I idled mine around all day during a 100 degree summer day moving stuff around...no..it wasn't in the shade. lol 180 is the norm for most engines. My thermostat guage doesn't have numbers but I'm sure my 292's have never gotten past 170-180 rang. Now my 305E V6...well....that's another story entirely. haha And yes I'm proud you kept that 292. I won't say the rest of what I always say. lol
