Motor

Who makes the best motor? I was thinking of putting a new 350 in my truck to replace the 305 engine. I know there is a big range of prices. I will probable go for the middle of the road in price? Thanks, Al

Re: Motor

Pull a 350 from a junk yard and build it up with a cam, set of heads, headers and so on. Best motor made is your own

Re: Motor

Personally, I don't 100% trust any engine I didn't build myself.
If you have the tools and knowledge to build one, I would recommend that way.
If you are going to spend money and buy one, it's a roll of the dice no matter where you get one.
Even the best engine builders occasionally have a bad day or piece of equipment not working properly.

Re: Motor

I understand, but I don't think I could trust an engine I built. Ha Al

middle of the road price means how much? what's your budget? what do you want it to do? daily driver, towing etc. etc.
do you want a complete ready to drop in engine? or just the long block so you can hang all your parts on it?

need a little more info

Re: Motor

If I didn't have engine building skills, I would buy a crate motor from GM.

Re: Motor

I will be replacing the tired 305 in my truck with a crate from GM. Stuck between the $1500 Goodwrench 350 or $3000 350HO. $1500 can buy me a lot....

Absolutely!

And even the base 350 Goodwrench engine for approx $1500 will make you grin compared to a worn out 305.

Re: Motor

It would be a daily driver, probably not more than 3000.00. Thanks, Al

That's a great price. You would be hard pressed to build one for that kind of money and have a warranty (I assume there is a warranty).
