BBC Headers
I feel like I've spent days looking for headers for my 65. I had to scrap the twin turbo ls idea [read my build to find out why] so I decided to put a big block in it instead...the idea of trimming my frame doesn't make me happy since I just painted the engine compartment today. A lot of the old threads have links that aren't active anymore and seemed to trail off rather than give a real answer. The motor is a 396/402 now 408 which will rev up to 6500 or so, I know a truck needs power down low, But 90% of my driving time is on the freeway and just a couple miles off I90 to work so building it for down low isn't for me. It will have a 4L80E so I can cruise and I plan to have a cable operated shifter from B&M so there wont be any linkage in the way.
Am I better off just asking the manufacturers which will fit my truck?

Re: BBC Headers
I believe any off the shelf header will require trimming the top flange of the frame. The '67 and earlier trucks were not available from the factory with a big block, so the frame needs to be trimmed. I used '73-'87 truck headers on mine, but then my Suburban isn't very low. Some guys have used Chevelle headers with success. They don't hang down as low as truck headers. But those will not work with the original bellhousing crossmember in place.

Re: BBC Headers
I used Hedman Elite HTC 69136 2" primary tubes on my big block which list as 68-87 truck headers. Did have to trim the upper frame flange, fit great around the POL mounts. Few pics on how they look/fit.

Re: BBC Headers
They are a tight fit. I had to trim about an 1/8" off the right side. The right header cleared the stock mount but the left didn't so I went with the tubular mounts which worked. These are the Hedman Elite headers. I would to with some chevelle headers as these hang down real low.

Re: BBC Headers
I'm going to use the Sanderson ones and I'll just fab a new trans crossmember. My boss has pretty much the same ones on his 57 GMC, they have a narrow profile which is good for tight frame fitment.
