tallest tires
I have a 1972 c20 longhorn. it has rear leaf springs. I am about to install late model aluminum chevy 8 lug factory wheels. waiting on new lug nuts to get here. I want the tallest tires I can fit on it . it has like a 4/11 gear in it. trying to make it more highway friendly.going to buy new tires soon. any ideas on how tall of a 16 in. tire I can run ?

Re: tallest tires
The problem with getting tall tires is they want to get wider! I ran 265 75 16 on my C2500 all around. Another choice would be 255 85 16. If you want to stay skinny, the 235 85 16. But you are still stuck around 32-33" tall.
HO52 or Dana 60 rear in your truck? I have a parts truck with a 60 so not sure if that's the only option. But you can at least get lower numerically gears for it unlike the HO52. Pick the tire you want/like for the wheel and stance your truck has then keep your ears open for a 3.54 geared Dana 60 which was a great combo in my truck with 402/TH400. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: tallest tires
7.50R16's are right on 32" tall, 235/85's are a smidgen shorter and wider and 255/85's are almost 33" and wider still.
The tire we need is an 8.25R16. They are the same width as a 235 but almost 34" tall. The thing is, I have searched far and wide and have yet to come across a radial version for sale here in the states. Overseas they are a very common size. |

Re: tallest tires
My 71 C20 longhorn with rear leaf springs runs LT285/75R16 and they fit just fine with no rubbing on 16X8 0 offset wheels. They are 33" high by about 11.5" wide.

Re: tallest tires
Remember while tire height (rolling radius actually) is a determining factor in how fast or slow and engine turns at speed (65mph through 4.11s in these examples). You need to do the numbers and don't expect much change.

Re: tallest tires
7.50R16 are the tallest. Closest metric is 215 85R16 but they are about an inch shorter.
