Well picked my color!
First time for everything and yesterday it was me painting Color, I decided to go with poly saddle as it should look good with the white 2 tone and give it that classy look I want. Shot 2 coats of color and 3 coats of clear, it was a little orange peely but not bad and it is a firewall and floor afterall.

Way to go bro! Painting well is a skill worth learning because you'll have it all your life. Heck, my painting skills are only mediocre but I'm fine with that. Plus, I get a little better every time. Keep going. Its gonna look good.

Great color choice I had to go this color because my Dad ordered his new 66 CST the same saddle gold and white. I remember picking it up at the dealer and us kids riding home in the bed. Interesting ac holes in firewall. Looks like you left out the ac wire harness plug hole and kept the lower plugged hole?
Is yours a 65 or 66 as I just got done with the interior paint last month. Used the Ditzler/PPG paint codes from the 1966 dealer order book. PPG has them crossed in base clear and they are close. Biggest help I can give you is on that dash color you have to use 40% flatner in the clearcoat and you have to turn the air pressure down from 50 to about 15 lbs and spatter the pain on the dash for the texture and flatness to look right.

Now what do you need a A/C cab in Oregon for? I have a cab without that pesky hole in it and I will gladly trade you for that one...

If your 65 then you don't need the medium fawn color for the dash or the spatter for the texture. But play with the flatner in the clear like I said about 40% was the majic to make it look factory correct that day with humidity/temperature/ and altitude here. I had mixed one spray out down to 75% flatner and it was chalky and even purplish on my dash color.
If needed I can go over to the paint building in town and get the formula for the cab fawn color mix. Interesting on the factory air hole differences. This cab was dealer install factory air and I have two other cabs that are 66 Chevy factory air assembly line installed and they have the same hole locations. But this might be a year and assembly plant difference too.

Looks damn good, especially for your first effort! Hope you got a bit more paint than required, as light metallic colors like saddle can be a b***h for a newb when laying it down on the big flat exterior panels. That's where streaks or bands show from overlapping passes with the gun. Keep your paint moving in the cup and waste some paint practicing first. Better to waste a little paint than waste time blocking again, right?
Not trying to scare you, and it may be you've already got the "right touch" with the gun anyway. Some are born with it, some learn it, and some will never have it. If Newfisher owns a gun and suit, I'll guess he has experience and it may pay to have him in the booth with you for pointers. It's looking great so far. Nice work! |
