My '64 SWB Project
So after a long wait I finally got my '64 back from the shop last week. What was originally going to be an engine swap and paint job, turned into a full blown frame off resto. Many months and $$$ later, here is the finished project!
The original truck had a non original 289 motor in it and I wanted to do an LS upgrade to a fuel injected motor. I ended up swapping in a 6.2 L92 out of a 2009 Escalade. But the body is where most of the pain was, as once we stripped it down, it was obvious that there was quite a bit of rust hidden under all that paint. We ended up having to switch out the cab to save a little $$ on some of the expensive patches it was going to need, especially above the windshield. In the interior I tried to keep everything as close to sock as possible. We modified the bench seat that was in the truck when I bought it (I believe it was 90's F150 bench) to look more similar to a stock seat and kept all of the manual controls. So what do you guys think, I have found the forum so valuable as I have gone through the process. I am so impressed with everyone's project on here and their abilities to do much of their work themselves. I was fortunate to have a great shop in my hometown that was able to tackle this project for me. I couldn't be happier with the results. What the clock out of? Look correct for the era...
Super clean super nice truck! Congradulations. Also what the license plate mean? How do you get the stock dash to "work" speedometer etc with the updated motor? (transmission?) Also what king of Mileage are you really getting with it? Im getting 15 with a 350 (330 HP GM crate) and 200 R4 in freeway... (probably 10 in town) In other words was it worth it for a daily driver? Or is it a show truck? |

That is a very nice truck
 The guys over at the V8TV shop do excellent work. I remember seeing pics of your truck several months ago and I was impressed at the fabrication of the trans floor hump. I had no idea that, that was a forum member's truck.

Love the paint scheme, nice choice. I'm curious to know how the 6.2L works in there in terms of power and seat of the pants feel. Also curious about the speedo workings.

Sorry, I've been away for a bit. I really appreciate all the compliments. I am enjoying the truck quite a bit and very happy with it. I'll try to answer all the questions in this post.
The clock/instrument panel was done by TBONE1964. I believe he has mentioned in a previous post that the clocks he uses are from 55/56 Chevy passenger cars and 58/62 Corvettes. He paints the hands to match the needles. He does a great job on these dashes. I'm not exactly sure on the communication between older instrument panel, but I do know that we are running an EZ-TCU by Fast transmission controller. The license plate stands for Carbon which has to do with my biz as I am in the coal business. 27 is just a favorite number. I am not using it as a daily driver, but you certainly could. It gets around 17/18 mpg depending on how hard you drive it. If it were a daily, I would switch the bench seat out with something more comfortable. Power feels real good with the 6.2, sounds great. The shop was saying around 500 HP, but I think it is more likely in lower 400's. I'm looking forward to getting it on the dyno. The tires are General G Max. Rear- 275/40 ZR 20 106w Front- 235/45 ZR 18 98w I think that's all of them, let me know if there are any additional questions. Thanks again for all the compliments!!! Means a lot from you guys! |
