Just annoying or causing damage
Hey all,
I recently bought a 1980 blazer with 54000 original miles and the speedometer cable is making a fairly loud noise. Other than being annoying, is this causing any damage to the speedo\odeometer? Since the miles are low and correct, I would hate for them to quit working. What is the best way to fix this noise? Thanks, Jason |

Thanks! If it's just a lube problem, would graphite work just as good. I think I have a tube of it somewhere?

I think the inside part of the cable will pull out of the sheath from either end.. so remove it from the tranny end, and pull it out. Other wise you might have to pull it out from the speedometer end (much easier if you have cruise control)
at any rate pull it out and lube it up with lubri-plate if you have it.. otherwise a spray can of white lithium grease will work just as well.. its really an easy job and worth it to keep that thing running. God how many older trucks still have the speedo's working. not many mike |

Mine makes a racket. and you would think that it would make it slow the speed down a bit but it actually reads about 10 high! but who looks at that thing any way LOL
