Son and his 62 c10 help advice
Gave my son a 62c10 long bed. It had the original in line 6 and 3spd manual trans.
I had a 350 in good shape so he is putting it in. He wanted an automatic transmission. The 350 has a t350 on it but figured might look for a 700r4 to give him little more mpg. Bought one. He wants the shifter on the floor and taller than the short shifters for cars. Any idea where to find these type shifters? I have looked around and all I have seen are short ones. He has been working his but off trying to get it ready to drive his senior year. It won't be pretty but will be a driver for him. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Son and his 62 c10 help advice
Lokar makes one for the 700r4 (16") its not cheap but it comes with boot&ring. Your looking at $258.00!! But you get what you pay for in my experience. Also you might think about just getting an auto column instead of running the shifter. I only say this because I was going to put a Muncie in my 63 and the shift was going to come up right under the seat. So unless you want to run buckets or cut your seat it might be more conducive to just find a used auto column on the cheap. Hope this helps

Re: Son and his 62 c10 help advice
If you don't already know about the 700R4's, I would suggest reading up on them here on the forum in the 'Engine and Drivetrain' section. If you don't have the TV cable correctly connected to the carb and have it adjusted properly, you will burn up the trans in a very short time. The torque converter lockup needs to be operational also.
