What a rip! I bought a set of 4 for my c10 for $20, and subsequently have picked up a couple more for $5.

Re: Beware Of Shill Bidders

i just looked around Ebay and am shocked at what people think any hubcaps are worth. Even S10/S15 hubcaps are going shy high. It's from people who go by other sales. The caps from 69-75s are really hard to find in great shape, so they go high, but not as high as what I'm seeing far more common caps going for on Ebay. These caps were made for 15 years and far more trucks per year. But this auction his being bid up by two people and one shows no feedback...the highest bidder

Re: Beware Of Shill Bidders

Yeah, all the way through '87 because hubcaps were different on RV models through '91...right? And 73-75s didn't have the same type as 69-72...right? lol I always hated antique dealers who didn't know what they had but knew they wanted a lot of money for it. I bought a frying pan grease stainer, curved bottom, louvered slots, shaped like a slice of watermelon, with a wooden handle. On the tag the seller claimed it was a bacon press. Ok Einstein, then why was it made of thin and light aluminum??? I looked for the cast iron grease strainer but couldn't find it there. Well, they were kinda right about the bacon I guess. But, I take the bacon out, then pour out the grease.
Anyway, a little more than an hour left and this hubcap is up to $117.50 with Shilly in first place hoping someone else will pull the trigger. Look around Ebay, there are sets and pairs in same condition for less. One guy is selling some nice looking ones, a full set, four different auctions selling 1/4 of the set for $80 Buy it NOW. That's only $320 for a set!. Hey, maybe just under $120 for one isn't so bad. Wait...lemme think. What's 4 x $120? Hey......hold on right there. That's almost $500. I sure am glad I figured that out before bidding.

Re: Beware Of Shill Bidders

The 3/4 ton hubcaps for that year go high in nice shape as that is the most common hubcap they use in Saudi Arabia. 1/2 ton GMC caps are very cheap by comparison. Look up what the reproduction Sierra Classic dash emblems for the 81 and newer trucks are selling for. Right around $500! And those are reproductions! GMC parts aren't cheap and if you want nice ones you need to have deep pockets if buying off Ebay. The best bet is swap meets which is where I get most of my caps. I was offered $200 for my 2 rear GMC 3/4 caps but I didn't want to break up a complete set. I don't think it is shill bidding. With the popularity of GMCs in Saudi Arabia it has kind of set the market prices. They have deep pockets and it makes it tough for Americans to build these trucks reasonably.

Re: Beware Of Shill Bidders

I actually had a harder time selling my 3/4 ton 75 and earlier GMC caps in nice shape than I do 76 and newer 3/4 GMC caps and there are a lot more 76 and newer GMC caps to be found! It is all about demand. Especially when it is an auction style listing. People get caught up in the bidding.

Re: Beware Of Shill Bidders

I don't know how many GMCs are being fixed up in Saudi, but there sure are an awful lot of very nice condition ones on Ebay right now. I'm not big on Ebay and I guess I'll stay that way. I never needed it before the internet. I don't know it's shilling, but that was my reaction, especially seeing it get bid up by two people with one having zero feedback. I manage to find while sets for 1/2 what that one is, Chevy and GMC. I expect them to go up as time goes by, so I'll hang on to mine.

I hope none of you guys mind me using up good caps on my GMT400s, but this has been my style forever. I'm a retro (and 8-lug) kind of guy. Caps are mint and I paid no more than $15-20 a piece

Re: Beware Of Shill Bidders

Thanks. These are my year round drivers. The Suburban replaced the K3500 for now. I'd rather it be a pre-92 (it's a '95) but it's actually a decent vehicle. It's a truck that can be an SUV . I think I'll run oxidized caps this winter to keep these nice.
An old picture, but I used to run these on a '71,too. I always liked these caps since I first saw them in '76. The 8-luggers with six spokes look tough. I apologize for all the non 73-87 trucks. But this is about the caps, right? I just posted my old '84 in the cab lights thread today

Re: Beware Of Shill Bidders

They look great on the 71. Factory caps are really growing on me. Just need the right truck for them!

Tim you would be stunned at how many GMC trucks are in the Middle East. I'm on Instagram and there are an endless amount of red LWB stepside GMC 2500 squarebodies in mint, or restored to immaculate condition.

It is a HUGE trend with the wealthy to have truck rallies in the desert and show off all of their red GMC trucks. I also find page after page showing all of the mint or NOS parts they have in their collection, and hubcaps are among them.

Try finding an NOS dashpad. Bring a sack of cash when you go looking.

Having just traveled to Kuwait last year I can tell you those fellas are true enthusiasts over there regarding their trucks. Very nice guys to hang around with. I have a bunch of pictures of a gathering we had while I was visiting, good stuff.
