Lights

I have just installed the painless wiring harness and have the following problems: Parking lights come on ok as well as blinkers until I turn on the headlights. Then the parking lights don't work. Also the dash lights don't come on at all. I verified the bulbs in the dash as well as the foil runs. I have a new headlight switch installed. Thanks Kerry (Wootdog)

Man, all I can think of is ground wires. I fixed my dash lights once every thing worked until you put a turn signal on. Then whole dash would blink. had bad ground wire. Did you run a new ground to the radiator support? Head lights maybe taking the ground from parking lights. With new light switch though I maybe way off but just running an extra wire will be easy enough to check out.

I agree, it definitely sounds like a bad ground. Good Luck

THIS MIGHT BE KINDA DUMB BUT, IS IT A GMC? MY PARKING LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN I SWITCH THE HEADLIGHTS ON. THAT'S THE WAY THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO WORK IN MINE. ALSO YOU SAY THE PARKING LIGHTS WORK OK...I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH ONE OF MINE...WHEN THE PARKING LIGHT WOULD FLASH IT WOULD GO VERY DIM COMPARED TO WHEN IT WAS JUST ON..FIGURED OUT THE TWO WIRES THAT GO TO THE PARKING LIGHT WERE REVERSED..DUAL FILIMENT. ONE FOR FLASH(BRIGHTER) THE OTHER FOR RUNNING LIGHT(DIMMER). ONE WIRE IS BLUE THE OTHER PURPLE. AS FOR THE DASH, YOUR GROUND WIRE IS IN THE PRINTED CIRCUIT AND COMES OUT THROUGH THE FACTORY PLUG..I TOOK THAT WIRE AND RAN IT STRAIGHT TO THE DASH TO GROUND IT AND I HAVEN'T HAD A PROBLEM WITH DASH LIGHTING SINCE...

I believe your '68 is like mine. When I turn my lights on the park lights go off also and they are supposed to. just as long as the turn signals still work with the lights on. As for the dash lights I think the others are right on with the ground wire suggestion.
Good luck

the 67/68 switches are different, the parking lights go off when u turn on the headlights. You can get a newer switch to correct that/.

I always thought it was just the 67 that the parking lights went out.
Do your tail lights stay lit?

lights

Yes the tail lights stay lit. The dash lights still don't come on. I will try the ground thing today. This is a 67. My 68 parking lights stay on with the head lights on.
