sbc 400 water pump
I'm putting the finishing touches on the engine swap currently and am unsure of which style water pump to go with. If I go with a long pump on the sbc 400 will I run into any issues with the fan shroud clearances, and will I have problems with power steering brackets. I don't know what the 400 had on it stock because I got the block in a trade. Any suggestions and reasons for either a short or long pump are appreciated. Thanks.
P.s. this is in a 67 short stepper. |

Re: sbc 400 water pump
ALL V-8's in '67 to '72 Chevy/GMC trucks had short pumps. So if you are using all the stock 1967 SBC engine bracketry... use the short water pump.

The short pump will go on the 400 small block in case you were worried about that, I have one on my 71 one ton.

Re: sbc 400 water pump
The larger 400 balancer has issues with some power steering setups(both long and short pump). I would stay short pump if it will work. Just trial fit it and see. Other than that, I am not aware of other issues with 400s and any accessories.
