Ride quality

I have a 70 C10 short box lowered 3/5 with CPP kit. I think it rides ruff, It bounces all over the road and can feel every crack. My wife does not like going for rides because of the ride quality. Is there something different out there that will improve ride quality?

Did you lower the front with springs and spindles (2" spindle drop/ 1" spring drop) or all spring?

Is the rear hitting the frame/bump stops over bumps? Is the rear springs or leafs?

I haven't dropped my truck yet, but been driving it the past 18 years... the front suspension is rebuilt and she rides really well for an old girl, even had people shocked how well it rode that had never been in a truck that old before. How did it ride before the drop?

What size tire?
Also tell us more about EVERYTHING you did to lower the truck.

There are a LOT of members that just throw in a set of 3/5 springs and go.
It's way more involved than that.

I'm not a fan of lowered trucks that much but I think it may be in the tire if you have a big wheel small tire as far as aspect ratio that is meaning the tire is doing some of the road harness absorbing and if it is a small side wall it will ride like a brick

Thanks for the input. I have 15" rally rims with 275/60-15 on back and 255/60-15 in front. I bought the truck last fall with it already lowered but I installed the shock relocate brackets to help the ride (helped a little). it has 2' drop spindles in front with 1" lowering springs and 5" lower springs in back.

Hmm. Have you looked at the rear bump stops? If they are close, you may want to cut them down or remove them. The next step would be installing a C-notch.

Do you have an adjustable trac-bar? Did you have the front aligned properly?

Yes I have a adjustable track bar, CPP shock for the correct height and I trimmed the bump stops a little. I did not have it aligned at all, probably should.

Definitely get it aligned.
Have the alignment guy dial in as much caster as possible.
(+4 to +5 degrees)

I've never had CPP shocks or springs.
I usually use Belltech or KYB shocks.

Thanks. How about the track bar, would the alignment shop adjust it. I put it on myself and adjust it to have equal space on both sides.

I have the same kit on my truck , it rides like a dream ,,, I had to replace the front shocks immediately though ,, the ones I got with the kit started failing the moment they were installed , they are cheap and easy to replace ,,

My front end also has a 78 power box ,, standard moog rebuild .. and large swaybar ,, funny the rear shocks have lasted ,, this really pissed me off with the defect shocks I got ,, then I got fancy tubular motor mounts from them "cpp" and they only worked with 600 dollar dougs headers ,, mentioned nowhere ,, now they have changed their motor-frame mounts

If you have big wheel that might mean small tires when the aspect ratio is low meaning they are wide but with a narrow sidewall that is gonna make the truck ride like a brick

Looks like a good unit. If i had it I would disconnect the shocks (front then rear). You would be ridin' getto but you could rule out to stiff,or no travel shocks

your rear ride will be much improved with 3" drop springs AND 2" blocks. That's 2" more spring in between the frame and the trailing arms.

First of all, that is a gorgeous truck!

I don't have experience with the CPP kit, but the ECE adjustable bar does not mount to the original location on the pumpkin like your picture seems to show. Their bar attaches to a bracket mounted on the passenger side trailing arm. Maybe the geometry isn't working with the amount of drop you have. I will say that ECE is a fantastic company to deal with, and you might give them a call and see if they have any suggestions.

I have a 72 swb step (profile pic). I used a CPP kit (including shocks and rear upper relocator brackets)i bought off a member here when he chaged direction. It is an all spring drop, i believe 3"/4". I am running 275 60 15 tires. I removed the bump stops completely. It rides a litle more firm than stock but still nice. Sorry i cant suggest anything as to why yours isnt behaving...

I think i would try new shocks. As was mentioned above, i dont think the shocks are very good quality. Does anyone know if stock length shocks will work, or which to use if theyre shorter?

I don't use CPP. I suspect their shocks are crap and would first try riding it w/o them. I don't know how good their springs are, but the whole purpose of drop springs is to give lower ride height while retaining ride quality. Otherwise we would just heat or cut coils like we used to, and deal with the ride. There are adjustable panhard bars for up to 5" drop and there are Super Track Bars for over 5". You are at the break-off point and may benefit from the Super track Bar. I only use ECE for better quality. Talk to them and they will solve your problem. You probably need the right KYBs and the super Track Bar wouldn't hurt. Also, those front shocks look really laid down

You cant use stock shocks , they make them specificly for the amount of drop you use

Dont get the black cpp shocks they are a waist of time and money , mine leaked out within 2 weeks of install

..sounds like my house... & I agree with her about the ride quality. '71 GMC short/step, CCP 4" spring w/ 1" block on the rear, adj. track bar, shock relocators, CCP shocks. Good clearance on the bump stops. 2" spindles & 1 coil cut off the front w/ Monroe shocks that are pretty old. 255/60/15 T/A Radials on 8" Ralleys. Had a '68 C20 long bed for years all orig. beater and I LOVED the way it rode & drove. Maybe we're just gittin' old & grumpy.

My truck rides terrible . PO said 3/5 drop . Has lowered springs in front with springs and block in rear . I feel every crack in the road . Watching this thread .
