Need some help
Posting this here due to the fact I know some of you have done these swaps and know me.
I need some help getting this going and I am at a loss. I have a new motor after issues with the 1st one. The new one is a 6.0 iron block that runs great at least in 1st gear and idle I have had the PCM that came with the unit I bought and I have also recently had another PCM tuned by Garrett tuning in Ohio that was to help with shift points. I also took out the original harness and put in a new PSI harness. Still the same issues. Will shift in manual at least 1-3 but not in auto. What am I missing. The speedo is a GPS unit from what I understand that should not matter. https://youtu.be/jkvhadSxe2E Is it a tune is it a sensor????? |

Re: Need some help
None.... I am leaning to the VSS but not sure how they work.
Any idea as to how the sensor gets the info. I assume something passes by the sensor. But not sure what |

Re: Need some help
Check over in the LSx Swaps, there are some VERY helpful trans and ECU folks over there!
They have pulled me out of the "mud" a few times

Re: Need some help
I don't know about your specific problem, you don't mention what you have for a transmission, but my setup used an all electronic transmission that would not shift out of 1st gear also.... I did not have my speedometer cable hooked up. The computer needed the input to work.

Re: Need some help
Iceburgh, here is what my buddy Nathan suggests.
Unplug the vss, connect a volt meter to the sensor. You should find a/c voltage that increases with driveshaft speed. You can usually spin the driveshaft by hand and see a voltage fluctuation. If you dont see any voltage, make sure the sensor is squarely seated in the trans. If it looks ok, remove the sensor, there should be a toothed reluctor ring(that is press fit) on the tailshaft of the trans. Take a pocket screw driver and make sure the reluctor is not freely spinning on tailshaft. If you have a/c voltage at the sensor, go to the pcm and backprobe the vss wires and check for voltage. Since you are using a gps speedo, Make sure the vss output wire from the pcm is not shorted to ground. There might not be codes or cel because of the tune. Tuner might have turned off the trans dtc's or it might have the incorrect tune for the trans. Is any scan tool available? |

Re: Need some help
The VSS I had was for a manual....I gt a new one and it roles down the road. Still not perfect between 3 and 4th when I step on it it feels like it slips at a pretty good rate but I am getting closer

Re: Need some help
is this for a 4l60e or a 4l80e (or something different?)
3 and 4 can both lockup, so it could also be the convertor refusing to lock because its seeing something it doesn't like (heat, slip etc). If its an 80e, you also need an ISS (another VSS).

Re: Need some help
it is a 4l60e.... I assume the tranny is good due to the fact it acts fine under normal conditions.
It is just when I stand on it does it act up. Something I would need when entering a highway. If it is a tune I am hoping to find someone in the area with a hp tuner or something. So far that search has not gone well. very few in central Pa |

Re: Need some help
Hmm, I watched the video, but it didn't seem like you went far enough or fast enough for it to need to shift.
Depending on the TPS vs speed points in the tune, it may not actually be doing anything wrong mechanically speaking. I'd have to see a log of your speed vs TPS and the shift tables. For example, we had some "bouncing" problems with 3rd gear; it would hit 3rd and lockup, then dump lockup and shift to top gear (all in a second or so). This was because with the stall convertor's slip, the delay between the shift and lockup was just long enough to gain the mph needed to shift up... Try finding a looong stretch of quiet road that you can accel down as lazily as possible. Like just enough throttle to gain speed, slowwwwwly rolling in just to keep the weight going. It should want to shift pretty easily by ~3500. Try it in D, try it in 3, and then for sh!ts try it once just in 1 (some trannies will still shift out of 1 to protect people from themselves).
