Is front half of transmission hump removable?
Before I start prying and permanently damage anything LOL I figured I would ask the experts...I have the transmission cover unbolted but I still need to remove the section in front of it. Looks like part is seam sealed and the other part doesn't have fasteners and I can't tell if it is spot welded? I can reweld the spot welds if that is all it is...any tips or tricks on its removal without trashing the piece or the floor?

Re: Is front half of transmission hump removable?
Thank you. The panel is not at all rusty but it is so tough to see where it is welded! Hopefully hitting it with the cup wheel will make things shiny and easy to see. I have to drill from inside the cab so at least I have that going for me.

That's how we find them! Clean it off a little and they will start presenting themselves.... there's always a couple that stay hidden and give you a surprise!

Re: Is front half of transmission hump removable?
the one that I did I found that it looked like the factory spot welded it right through the seam sealer, also the spots didn't really line up front to back, it was as if the spot welding tips were at an angle..
I use a heavy wire cup brush on the 4 1/2 in grinder and run over the seam, it will start to burn the paint/rust off, and leave a little bit in the divot where the spot is.

Re: Is front half of transmission hump removable?
I drilled the spot welds on mine then installed it woth 5/16" bolts. I tack welded the nuts on the engine side of the firewall so that I could easily remove both bottom and top sections of the hump.

Re: Is front half of transmission hump removable?
Yeah, I remember a 62 I had where the upper section and lower hump were both bolted in.

Re: Is front half of transmission hump removable?
Thanks guys. I am going to also bolt it in afterward because it might provide some needed access to the gigantic OD 5speed I have in there right now. I had to put the transmission in sideways and then straighten it after it gets through the tunnel!

Re: Is front half of transmission hump removable?
Thats why I did it. It gives easy access to the bellhousing bolts and the back of the motor.

Re: Is front half of transmission hump removable?
Got it off. Just a small tweak on the floorboard afterward and everything is good to go. Glad it all fit without cutting.
