Vintage Air w/ top off.
Anyone have Vintage Air or similar set up and run around with their top off? I am trying to gauge if you can actually feel the cool air or not on a given summer day.
In my old jeeps it wasn't too bad. Hot outside, but you could at least feel some cold air hitting you. I am just curious because if I am going to get a system I want to do it now and not later. Any input is appreciated. Thanks Keegan

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
You likley won't feel a thing with the top off. Vintage Air is nice, but they dont move huge volumes of air like a factory unit will do. But honestly, are you REALLY wanting to run the air with the top off????

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
I have Vintage air and run with the windows down but I never take the top off. It stays comfortable to me but the wife *****es. But that's what wives do.

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
I have factory and had vintage air in my 1977 FJ40 with no top it does little to nothing at all with either one. I am currently working on a cold seat project that is not going well so far. I bought a cool shirt set up for going under a race car drivers fire suit and am trying to have it converted into the seats. If this fails and so far its looking not great I will try a jockey box set up like you make cold draft beer with and use stainless steel woven hoses to see if that works. I have post on this elsewhere but not updated yet as its failing so far. I am open to ideas if anyone has any. PG

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
All aftermarket AC systems rely on cooling recirculated air. By removing the top, you are constantly feeding the system fresh warm/hot air. Therefore, the system has a snowball's chance in h$ll to produce and detectable cold air out the vents.

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
Factory air, no top... you can feel the cool air if you put your hand in front of the vent. Maybe in the shade if it was real still and you were stopped it might cool you off a little. I never put the top on and last time I turned the air on the compressor squealed real bad probably from disuse. Neighbor said it's a bearing in the compressor. Pretty much drive the Blazer evenings in the Summer.... Fall, Winter, & Spring it gets a lot more miles here in central Fl.. Old fair skin can't stand the sun much anymore.

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
Figured I'd bring this thread back from the dead now that I finally got my A/C to come on through the PCM, and can tell you from todays experience that having the air on and the top off does nothing when you're moving other than cooling your hands off when you feel the vent to make sure the cold air is still coming out of it!

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
...... maybe if we all synchronized our watches and turned on the A/C to the COLDEST setting in our topless veh.s all over the country at the exact same time we could ..............
all have our hands feel a little cool ![]() Night before last I took the Blazer out at about 11:30 and blasted around for an hr. and a half. Temperature was great but I plastered the front and windshield with bugs. Spent 45min. scrubbing 'em off.

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
Like PGG mentioned above I wonder if cooled seats will be the way to go. Anyone have experience with cooled seats in any type of convertible?

Re: Vintage Air w/ top off.
I have solar-powered heated leather seats in my Z28 convertible. They're always nice and warm when I get in, at least this time of year.
