How to protect hubcaps from being stolen?

Let's say you have a rare set of GMC NOS hubcaps for a '70 3/4 ton still in their bags. How do you prevent someone from stealing them?

Noone who doesn't know what they are (fairly unique to 1-2 production years) would want them likely, but still...

Any good products out there?

Re: How to protect hubcaps from being stolen?

Keep them in their bags

The reality of these trucks or their parts becoming so "popular" sure has it's drawbacks. The thieves want them, too, or they just smell the money. I have read about parts or trucks being stolen on here and always feel good knowing I live where that doesn't happen. Well, does it not happy anywhere anymore? I see my love for these trucks being forced into a new element. These are vehicles I have loved to do whatever I do in all my life, not a garage queen show vehicle. My trucks have always been well kept and I do things to make them look cool. I like to park at a trail head and disappear in the wilderness all day. Or, park along the river while kayaking. These days you have to give it second thought. These things are easy to steal and so are many of the sought after parts.

Re: How to protect hubcaps from being stolen?

I have H2 wheels on its now, so I guess I'd likely only run the old bias-ply hubcap'd wheels for shows anyway. Sounds like not having them on is the best defense!

Re: How to protect hubcaps from being stolen?

I have a set of nos caps and driver caps. The nos caps go on at a show, otherwise the driver caps stay on.

Re: How to protect hubcaps from being stolen?

depends how often you drive and store it.

daily driver, have 2 sets, a daily set, and a show set. only use those rare ones when you are taking it for show.

You keep your car nice to please yourself, as a daily driver most wouldn't notice the hubcaps and will love your truck anyways.

If it was me though, I'd just put them on because I would be lazy and not swap them when I wanted to show her off.

Re: How to protect hubcaps from being stolen?

Start off with never telling anyone you have a N.O.S. set! If you should decide to anyway, whatever you do don't post it on the internet!!

Re: How to protect hubcaps from being stolen?

I'd have to keep them in my safe. I bought baby moons this spring and one day I looked at the rear wheel and realized I lost it either going to or comming back from the store. a $15.00 cap and I was sick.. I retraced my route but never found it, so I had to order 4 more. I could never deal with the loss of one of them.

Dave, your insurance agent should be getting into the office shortly. Be sure to call to upgrade your homeowners policy
