Do I have an LT based motor? Gen I? Gen II?

I've got a Chevy Small Block 350, and I was curious if I have a Gen I or Gen II (LT based) since Summit needs clarification when looking for rebuild kits and such. We believe the motor came from an early 80s vehicle.

If you could include years for which motors were Gen I and Gen II that would help greatly. Thanks.

Re: Do I have an LT based motor? Gen I? Gen II?

You will need to run the numbers on the back of the block to find out what year it is. 2 piece seal sbc is gen 1 pre 86. 1 piece seal is 86-95,recognizable by the center bolt valve covers, but the blocks are used to 99 in the vortec engines, which do not have the center bolts in the kntake manifold. The gen 2 LT engines were 1993 - 1997 in cars, and are distinguishable by the distributor in the front behind the water pump called an optispark. And the water pump is cam driven. I think that about covers it.
