How can i start the motor???
I am in the process of deconstructing my truck and have decided to sell the motor/trans since it will not be going back in. I have removed all of the wiring harness (cab and engine) as it will be replaced also.
The gentleman that is coming to look at the engine really wants to hear it run, if just for a moment. Not an unreasonable request. All of the engine is together, starter is still on, spark plug wires, coil, battery cables, fuel line, everything is connected except the wiring harness is unplugged at the firewall. How can I accommodate this guy?

run a wire from the dist to the battery, connect starter to battery and jump the starter. pour a small amount of gas in the carb, and check the oil!!

Re: How can i start the motor???
You can do as suggested, with a bump starter which is a hand held push button. You can video it and save that video so you don't have to fire it up for every tire kicker that shows interest.

Re: How can i start the motor???
Does the wire from the battery go to the + coil or to the distributor? I'm trying to do the same thing here but have no spark to the plugs

If you have the older separate style coil/distributor, your distributor needs to be connected to the coil like this http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8144/7...e2a9eac6_b.jpg but your wire colors will probably be different.

Re: How can i start the motor???
I got it running yesterday, here is what I did...
1. Positive side of the Battery to Starter 2. Negative side of the Battery to the Block 3. Wire from Distributor to Negative side of the coil 4. Wire from Positive side of the Battery to Positive side of the coil 5. Gas can to fuel pump 6. Oil Pressure gauge hooked up 7. There are three connections starter. Middle one is the larger one for the Positive cable from the Battery. I hooked up my bump-start button to the Positive side of the Battery and to the INSIDE connection on my starter. Pumped the gas a couple of times, hit the starter button, fired right up. I only ran it for a minute, just to let him hear it, but if you are going to do it for any length of time, make sure that you have water connected or hook up the radiator.
