LS water pump leak?

-
Does a leaky water pump on a F body LS1 engine show the same symptoms as an early small block???? The front lip of the cross member has antifreeze puddled in it but the only thing is there is also antifreeze on the bottom of the pan. I'm thinking it may be because of the way the pan is shaped in the front.... Is there anywhere else they leak? Do the hose fittings press into the pump??? Dunno.

Re: LS water pump leak?

Depends if you have an orignal Fbody pump or the new replacements they sell now. IIRC the hose connections are press fit, and you can actually pull one out....but it seems REALLY freakin hard to do.

The pump gaskets are o-ring gaskets, not paper style so they can sometimes only leak under certain conditions (at a particular temp or pressure level)...but yet not weep when parked.

The freeze plugs in the heads have been known to leak. Coolant hose on the throttle body can leak also if it wasn't bypassed or plugged/

Thanks Brew. I went ahead and ordered a new pump but I will take a closer look at the area and see if I can tell where it is coming from.... I might be able to see more if I get my inspection camera out. I keep forgetting I have it....
