front brake hoses 1971 ?????
OK,
Why in all the catalogues are the 71-72 front brake hoses listed as exclusive parts, anyone know? I want to replace mine, yet there is not a single auto parts place in town that has a set. I can't help but think that they must be interchangeable with some other chevy 1/2 ton brake set-up, but no one is offering that information. I actually just (like five minutes ago) had a local Chevy dealer parts guy tell me that he couldn't get any...how goofed up was that? Help please...I need to replace these. JT |

You may get away with interchanging 73-up but they ARE different and these are brakes you're working with so i DON'T recommend it.
I used NAPA and no they were not in stock, but I had them the next day. Whoever told you they could not get them wanted you to "go away" so I'd not patronize that store again. They lied to you.

CPNE is right.
Don't mess around seeing if hoses will work, Like he said, these arn't something like a airconditioner (nonessential) these are BRAKES! Having said that, Shop around through all the vendors web pages. I got mine through GMC Pauls. http://www.gmcpauls.com/brakes_2.htm 2/3rds way down that page, you'll see them, they're 39.95 or something like that. Also, don't hesitate with buying From GMC Pauls. He's one of the best! Hope this helps! P.S. Napa most definately should be able to get them. Might have to order them, but their orders usually come like twice a week, '71

Yeah, if you can believe it, that ding-a-ling who told me they were no longer available was from a large chevy dealership in sacramento that promotes itself as a performance dealer. What a joke. If I drove my truck in there, probably half of the people who work there would come out gawking at it and surprised at how nice it is. No, I won't be going there for anything.
And yes, there is a local Napa thay can get them for me by tomorrow, but I have to try one other place that is only about 5 minutes from my home...and probably a minute from the Napa store. Just learned about this place in the last 30 minutes, my new favorite toy store I am sure! <http://www.chevytruckshop.com/> No, I won't try to adapt any brake related parts, just thought that there's be something that could simply bolt into place. Thanks JT |

If you have a 4x4, I got a set from Wagner part # F97653. It says "LH-RH" on the box. Only saved one box though. Been years since I've installed them, I'm assuming that the part # will do both sides.

I had some problems getting brake hoses for my 4x4 recently. According to Napa they were no longer made, and Advance Auto Parts tried to charge me $106 for them. Luckily CarQuest supplies parts at my dads workplace, and they had them for $13/each IIRC. If you need me to look up the p/n, just shoot me a PM.

He gave me the part # before, it was BRK SP4661 Brake Hose. Just happened to have it close by.

I feel your pain...
I went through that earlier this year...
link to my post I found the 70 nova line to work great. I'll bet you a dollar if you order the OEM part from a local parts house it will be wrong.... |

thanks for that chucks70. Those brake hoses are currently installed on my truck and work perfectly fine. They were easier to install than to remove. I don't know how much they differ, but I have a dana 44 front/drum brakes/closed knuckles. Brakes are actually a bit better than before, but I still have to work on the rear.
I had the same problem as Dirt Dobber...drivin home on the freeway, a red light approaching, and...no brakes! it was a fun time. thought it was a wheel cylinder at first.

I was able to get a pair yesterday from a local Kragen parts store. I'll be getting to this later today...major hassle to find the parts though.
