Re: 65 c10 rear U bolt measurement

Issue with the blocks being that tall is the design of the trailing arms. The angle is tilted up and when you put a block on it it moves the rear end forward. The rears in these trucks are already forward in the wheel well and a block that size would move it an inch further forward. Also a block bigger than about 2" caused scrub line problems. A block that size would be a big issue with a 15" wheel.

Re: 65 c10 rear U bolt measurement

Let's see if I can get an answer

I never did anything to my rear and today very quickly apparently
There is now a space between my axle and the trailing arms at the u-bolt

Almost looks like there should be some sort of rubber or spacer or wedge
I do see a little bit where on the bolts due to the I guess trailing arms rubbing on it back and forth

I do not see that any of the bolts have come loose I don't see any cracks or breakage in the u-bolts

But damn it if I don't have space a good eighth of an inch to a quarter of an inch

It seems that however it's happening it has happened fairly quickly

I've never dealt with that sort of noise or movement in my truck until very recently

Where can I get those u-bolts and does anybody have an idea on why there would be a space

Where the u-bolt goes through the trailing arm, a lot of crud gets inside there and it's possible the bolt failed in there, the crud held it tightly in place until it didn't, and now it's broken free. You can find u-bolts on the web, maybe locally, too, if you're lucky. Here's some links:

https://www.holley.com/products/susp...s/parts/UBOLTS
https://www.performanceonline.com/19...n-C10-and-C20/
https://westernchassis.com/1960-1972...Arm-Ubolt-Kit/

Seriously, that crud will lock the bolts in place, don't be surprised if you need to bash them out, then ream the crud out to get the new ones in. Give the trailing arms a good look over afterwards, if they fail while driving, you could end up in a bad place. How's the trailing arm bushings? If they haven't been changed out, might want to do them as well. They're a pain to replace, but worth it if you have the time. Same with the coil spring retainers.

Sounds like the u bolt broke or wasn't tightened to the proper torque by the previous owner. The axle does not sit on a spacer or wedge at stock height, just flat on the trailing arm. No rubber either. If the bolts have wear on them, replace them.

Re: 65 c10 rear U bolt measurement

Have found two places I can get them made.
one needs a u-bolt one doesn't need the u-bolt
can anybody please take me an actual measurement
Mines a late 65 with trailing arms and 3/4-16 u-bolts

I don't have my truck in front of me and I haven't had it in front of me in a couple days so I can't take a measuring myself

Most of the ones that I see say 3 wide some say 3 1/2??

Re: 65 c10 rear U bolt measurement

So it was a wearing of the holes in the axle cradle

The holes got wallowed out and has allowed the U-Bolts to shift on the axle.
Subsequently allowing it to get tighter and looser as I drove it

Can anybody give me an inside measurement of the welded on cradles
Wanting to use some flat steel w(w/3/4" hole) to make some inserts(washers?)to weld into them
