EVAP cans & vent lines
On my 79 K25 there are two fuel tanks and an EVAP can for each. If I remove the EVAP cans, can I cap one fuel tank vent line and keep one vented with a breather of sorts? Or must both lines be vented? I don't think both lines can be capped. Additionally, any ideas for a breather/vent for the end of the tank line?

Honestly... The canister is the best way to vent the tanks. I know nobody thinks so and there'll be 10 guys who reply and say you don't need them. Trust me. They are the best way to vent the tanks.
Vapor from the fuel tank is trapped in the activated carbon in the canister. Under certain driving conditions (conditions vary from year to year and model to model) the vapor is drawn out of the canister and burned in the engine. None of them ever purge at WOT or heavy engine load. A properly functioning system, despite being not very attractive, does not impede engine performance in any way, doesn't leave any gasoline odor in the garage, requires little maintenance, and is undetectable when it is purging. Verify all the vacuum hoses are in good condition, fuel lines in good condition, and mechanical valves and actuators are opening/closing. All of these parts are inexpensive to replace if needed. |
