Who does the best steering box rebuild?

I have done a ton of searching and most of everything I see says to get redheadsteeringgear to do it. I have a 67 manual steering box that has a ton of slop. I adjusted and its still bad and gets to tight in full lock turns so I know its gone to far. I hear to many horror stories of the parts stores rebuilds.

Anyone running a redhead rebuilt box? I am thinking about sending them mine.

I've got a Redhead on my truck, and I can't say enough good things about it's performance. Worth every penny.

I just installed a Redhead today, I purchased it due to the reviews I read online about them.

Re: Who does the best steering box rebuild?

So, I send them my steering box and I get back a gem? How much, approx.? They return it with a nice finish?

Re: Who does the best steering box rebuild?

Don't the Redhead Steering Boxes have quicker steering ration so tighter steering and less lock to lock turns?

Re: Who does the best steering box rebuild?

The 1977-1979 parts store boxes (Cardone) have the closer ratio. They are physically the same. The only problem I have run into is the size of the input shaft seems to be a crap shoot. I had to put a new rag joint on the last one, but, that's probably not a bad idea any way.

I didn't look but it's probably a limited lifetime warranty. Same as a lot of their stuff. That means they'll replace it once at any time in it's life but then the warranty is done.

Re: Who does the best steering box rebuild?

The redhead does not offer a quicker ratio for my manual steering box and they strongly advise against it as it would make steering at slower speeds much harder. They do offer it for our trucks with power steering though. I will be shipping mine out to them monday. Thanks guys for all the input.

Re: Who does the best steering box rebuild?

I put a red head on my 71 and sent them my leaky one for the core. No problems so far they did not recommend the quick ratio for my power steering

Re: Who does the best steering box rebuild?

Well Redhead has my vote. Basically I ordered the wrong one tues called Wed. To make sure I was getting the right one. They said no and changed my order. Received it yesterday and all I can say is wow. I can't believe how bad my other was. Made me realize how unsafe it was. I rebuilt my complete front end a week before and this was the last piece to the puzzle. Everything is as tight as new now. I recommend redhead to anyone.

P.s. If you have a manual box that looks like their very first picture on their inventory page don't order it for your truck. It actually fits on the inside rail. Not the outside like our trucks even though it's identical minus the output would be upside down . Call them.

+1 on the rebuild. Cost me $30 for a PS unit and some time on YouTube watching the videos. Pretty easy.
