I was getting ready to paint my 1972 egg crate inner grill (argent silver, thanks again guys) when I noticed a crack.

Would cyano-acrylic glue (super glue) be the fix for that?

I used super glue on a Chevelle I once had. Looked fine. If you want it to look perfect, what slikside said.

I will look into an epoxy as suggested and use super glue as a back up. After the crack is repaired, it will be primed and painted over. Thanks.

MEK with a scrap piece of the plastic your are working on. Put the scrap in a little bit of the MEK in a jar and close up. Wait a day and your have a liquid weld of plastic that you can now apply to the joint like super glue. The best part is it is plastic and fuses a lot of plastics back together. Trevor

Well, I don't have any scrap pieces of inner grill. I do have a piece of grill from a 1979 Chevy Malibu plastic grill if it's the same material.

I assume I'd have to open up the crack a bit (like grinding open a steel crack to make room for a penetrating weld)?

One of his first lines is Super Glue is old technology. I say it demonstrated at two different shows this year and it's good stuff. Claims it will bond a broken fan belt together. He cut a rubber cord, used this, and had you pull one end and it will not let go, just stretch and stretch. He cut through the bond lengthwise and you couldn't tell where it looked like one piece never cut

If its just cracked, you can apply the MEK in the crack with a small paint brush and it will start welding itself together. I have used this method many times. The paste that I suggested by mixing plastic scraps and MEK is for chips or anywhere a void needs filled. If applying by a paintbrush, make sure its a natural bristle brush as any plastic brush will melt. Trevor

I've used ABS plastic cement to repair automotive plastic trim pieces. It works great, and you can use some scrap ABS to make a slurry of glue and 'molten' plastic to fill in gaps. I've used a heat gun (carefully) to speed up the hardening process.

Most abs cements are based with MEK.

Well I just Crazy Glued it. If that doesn't work, I'll try the ABS or MEK mentioned above.
