Dash Trans gear display option for 3ott/manual

Ok guys,

Got my interrior almost done and really happy with it except the gear indicator lens on the dash right on top of the steering wheel where if you had a auto Trans it showed what gear you were in. Well I got a 3 on the tree and it kinda bothers me when I drive at night to just see that blank space. It looks unfinished to me. The old owner put electrical tape over it and it actually didn't look too bad. Does anyone know what the factory did for the manual transmissions? Maybe a cool Chevy logo or something? Thanks for your replies.

I think it was left blank on the manuals.

The several ones I own ('81-'86) have a black tape on them. I'm sure that is factory. I don't think there was any kind of indicator or needle under there. I should add that these were all floor shift transmissions.

My 78 is a 3OTT and has the black tape as well. We factory ordered the truck in 78 so yes, the tape is the factory solution...

If you are worried about the tape coming up when it gets hot, you could tape it off and spray it with some plasti dip. Just an idea.

The way the cluster bezel closes that area out makes it look sort of "intentional".
