Disk brake conversion
Hello guys, I have been thinking about converting my truck to a disk brake setup. Can someone please tell me what would be a better solution. Should I get a front end off another truck, if so what will fit? Or should I go online and but the conversion? What is more realistic?
Thanks everyone. |

Re: Disk brake conversion
Buy new stuff to convert. A front end off of another truck will be used parts that will mostly need replacing anyways.

Re: Disk brake conversion
Used stuff is easy to come by and even if you replace a few things will still be much less expensive than new.

Re: Disk brake conversion
I would think if lowering spindles might be in your future then buy new stuff.
If you can find a good center link for a disc truck then grab it. That and the spindles Should match. Everything else is pretty much a wear item that should probably be replaced anyway. All the smaller parts do ad up when you think about it. Here's a good idea snatch the whole front off a compatible truck of your chooseing. Set it aside and rebuild it peice by peice till it done. Then do the swap that way you can still drive it till then.

Re: Disk brake conversion
63-70 conversion spindles for $229.
Everything else new. No need to swap balljoints or any steering components. Direct bolt on. Forget using wore out 71-87 donor parts. This is not 1980. There are much better options now!

Re: Disk brake conversion
Thanks guys for all the advice. Much appreciated, really. Can some give me an idea on where it would be best to find these parts?

Re: Disk brake conversion
Rockauto is a good place to start. The Mcgaughys set as well as others would also no be a bad place to look either. They give the option of retaining 6lug if thats what you have. They include rotors, calipers, bearings, hoses and everything.

Re: Disk brake conversion
Summit Racing is a good source, that often has free shipping.
Look at Pro Performance here on the board. They are very knowledgeable on the parts you would need.
