Re: Why would you do this?
That's a new one on me. Easy way to do a ~4" lift? Maybe he thinks it's a stiffer / stronger frame? (maybe it is, I dunno) It might be a good deal on a good truck -- I just don't know...

Re: Why would you do this?
Because they take up a lot of space and it fit right on top of the other? A way to lift and keep a lower center of gravity? One frame was rusty and owner was too lazy to remove it? Heck if I know...I was joking with my reasons. BUT... I have heard of it before. I think it is a way to lift where they don't play hockey

Re: Why would you do this?
Well, if two heads are better than one... then clearly, two frames are better than one!

Re: Why would you do this?
This an old school poor mans lift. It is also not a great idea. Yes the frames just stack and are welded together. At least partly welded. Twisting of the frame tears these thing up and then you get shifting.
To give the devil his due, after market lifts were not always available. Were there is a will there is a way. Safety standards didn't always exist either. Just ask Uncle Stumpy. ![]()

Re: Why would you do this?
I have seen mud trucks they used double or even triple frames. To me it screams corners cut just like that diamond plate over the passenger side rocker.

Re: Why would you do this?
Not a terribly bad truck. But to restore it you're looking at two frame-offs

Re: Why would you do this?
That could be a frustrating truck. I'd hate to do a frame-off just to end up with the same old truck sitting lower. The good part would be when you see a WTB for a 67-72 4wd frame. Call them up and say "Help me pull this out and I'll let you buy it"

Re: Why would you do this?
Honestly there are a couple reasons for this. There was a 4x4 shop here in Spokane that started out in the 80's he did about 4 or 5 double from 73-80 K5 and K10/K20 trucks. He still has the one he originally built, though the current build is considerably cleaner than before, you can't even tell there is a seam.
Reasons: 1) You automatically get 5" of lift...approximately 2) Lower lift 4" suspension plus double frame= 40" tires with excellent driveline angles, 6" lift + double frame=44" tires. Its pretty much an 80's thing IMO, definitely not easy or cheap to do it correctly. My 2 cents of course ![]() |

Re: Why would you do this?
A very expensive and involved body lift.

Re: Why would you do this?
This used to be popular with the show truck crowd a long time ago. I remember seeing a lot of these trucks in 4 wd magazines. Especially those with hydraulic bed/cab lifts. Seems like a lot of work though for a lift including the extra weight.
