Water pumps/pulleys

So i ordered a new water pump from summit it mesures 5 7/8" from floor to top of flange my old water pump mesures 5 5/8"....yeah a quarter inch difference as you can imagine my balancer pulley no longer lines up. My question is did i get a short pump for a serpentine pulley system and not a V belt system..is there a difference cause i didnt notice any selections that differentiated between the two...I've done some research and found articles listing those sizes as correct for gen 1 sbc short water pumps only deepening my confusion.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm hesitant to put some kinda spacer between my balencer and pulley to try and even things out.

do not try to space out your pulley on the HB you need to get things aligned properly with the right stuff . most likely you have the wrong water pump the difference in the sizes you gave pretty much are the difference in a short pump or a long pump for instance if toyr truck had came with a long pump and you installed a short the pulleys wont line up on the chance you tossed out the old water pump and cant tell if its a short or long pump thereis another way of knowing .. if you have a long sweeping alternator bracket that would mean you are ment to have a short pump . how ever if you have a short flat alt bracket then you are in need of a long water pump ... but the best way to know for sure is to have the old pump still on the engine and look down behind the water pump if you can see a bit of space like you could maybe get a finger in it between the water pump and the timing cover then its a long pump system if its a short pump the pump will be so close to the timing cover it will look as if its resting against it ... if you try to space out your HB pulley you could do damage to the HB and or engine so dont do that trust me happy truckin

To my understanding the difference between long and short water pumps is well over an 1" almost 2" from the ground to top of flange.

So here's some pics showing the size difference I'm figuring that summit is just summit and they were close just not exact unfortunately that won't work for me so i guess ill just order and return pumps till i find the one thats the right size exactly.

The small block short water pump for the Corvette's, were 3/16" longer than the short water pump for the '72 and earlier trucks and all other cars '68 and earlier. It sounds like Summit sent you a Corvette water pump.
