Wood bed ?s, with a twist.
We are at the point of replacing the wooden floor in numberoneson's '72ss. I have some ?? that could have been answered if the search of this forum was still running.
1. Are the size of the boards listed on 'GMC Pauls' website acurate? 2. Any one install plastic boarding cut to size and use the metal strips? If so, do the dimensions stay the same as wood? This asked because of possible larger exspansion when hot. 3. How do you stained oak boarders keep them looking fresh with out a lot of matainence? We are very close to buying a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" black textured plastic from a local truck bed manufacturer and cut to fit. This so numbersone son won't have to redo things in a short time. Thanks for your time, Steve

We have used the simulated wood plastic decking in a few trucks.

Where did you find that suff? Also, do you allow more for expansion than wood? Did you like the finished look?
Thanks., Steve

Lowe's or Home Depot should be able to help you. Price is not bad but more expensive than wood. I checked that option out last year but I got a better deal on trailer wood flooring from a local company. I also thought about the heat expanding, warping, etc. My conclusion was with the steel strips should keep everything in check but I would make a heat shield for the exhaust. My two cents.

We got it from the manafacturer to test the feasability as an alternate to wood in daily driver work trucks not show trucks. 2 we sprayed with SEM tintable bed coating and 2 we used Bulldog plastic adhesion promoter before the SEM. The material is for decking not the fencing material. No extra clearance is needed as there is very minimal expansion (less than wood). We installed the stock exhaust heat shields and after a year the non Bulldog coated beds are showing some separation of the coating.

Thanks,
I assume your real happy with the results. This plastic board I'm thinking about is already black, solidly through the board. Finish isn't an issue. I imagine that your decking material is either white or brownish tone. My supplier is checking on expansion of this stuff. Steve

It's greyish colored kinda like a pressure treated wood deck after the copotox green has gone out of it.
