1986 k10 stock 10 bolt shaft removal??
My 10 bolt in my truck rung off the other night. I know that you have to remove the C clip for the shaft to be able to slide out. And I do have the center pin between the two shafts out of the way. My question is how do I remove the other half of the axle that's broke close the carrier? I tried tapping it with a rod but it won't budge. Any suggestions?

Use a long rod (rebar works) and tap it out from the other side.
If it is a short piece, just pull the differential. Take care to mark the bearing caps and keep track of the shims so they can be put back in the same place. Not in your case, but if you can't get to the other side (some lockers/spools), it is also possible to pull it using a stick welder and a long bar with an electrode stuck to the end. Stick an electrode to the end of the bar, hook your welder up to the bar, stick the other end of the electrode to the end of the broken shaft and pull. |
