I test drove a 90 burb today with buckets and kinda felt crowded. I'm not a small guy, i drive a 85 pickup but thought the buckets would allow more adjustment. I couldn't find a way to recline the seat, felt like it was sitting straight up. Just asking questions as i need a family vehicle soon.

Were they vinyl or velour seats? There were a lot of high-back but fixed-back bucket seats put into K5's and Burbs in the 80's up to 91. Some had adjustable seat backs, but I think they were limited to 88-91 models. I own both and can make pics if necessary.

Cloth, I thought it odd no adjustment. Gut feeling turned me not to buy it, but I'm still looking up to no later than 94 but prefer the squares.

First pic is the seat w/fixed back, second is adjustable. There's one more style bucket seat but not sure if it's fixed or not.

My '90 Blazer Silverado had vinyl and the buckets reclined. Those Suburban seats should, too. My '85 Jimmy had the wide hi-backs and nothing back then reclined. I think the back adjustment is on the inner side

You turn the large knob at the joint of the seat back and base, it's kinda dark but you can make it out in the pic. Or I can make another if needed.

Cool and thanks, i remember feeling that big knob on there but i didn't mess with it. Hope to finds some more to test drive so i will know what to look for now.

Tim, what years had the style of those red seats you had? Did did they recline?

The factory Suburban seats don't slide back very far. However, they can be mounted farther back.

I did not find the seats in my Suburban to be very comfortable especially on long trips. So I swapped them out for a pair of low back seats out of a 1990 Deville. These seats fit almost like they were built for our trucks and they are much more comfortable.

As far as the '81 and newer models are concerned, Burbs and Blazers always had different bucket seats. Burb bucket seats reline, with the knob mounted on the inboard side of the seat. They aren't that east to use IMHO, you really have to lean yourself forward to adjust the seatback forward. They don't like to move with body weight on them.

The later model reclining K5 buckets were easier to operate, just by pulling a lever. They were basically the same as the bucket seats found in many 80's GM cars.

Thanks for the info on seats being different, never knew that. Yeah, the lever is much nicer than the knob.

I got to try the knob out today

I test drove an 89 the seat was way leaned back so i know now i have plenty of room in one of these. But didn't work out though had some electric issues i really didn't want to mess with. So onward and upward.
