Need help with Ignition

I have an MSD distributer on my abc 350, what would be the benefit of a ^AL box? what exactly does it do? Truck is mild build so far, edelbrock carb and intake, mild cam, LT headers and flows, and soon to have 180cc 2.02 heads if that helps

It won't do a whole lot for you. Without really high compression or really high RPM usage, a single spark electronic ignition will do everything you want. If you want to be truly versed:

Re: Need help with Ignition

I've run stock points, HEI, Pertronix conversion and MSD ready-to-run distributors all with and without a 6AL or Digital 6 box. Unless it's a really nasty street/strip serup or full race I wouldn't bother. I had my 6AL fail in the staging lanes 15 years ago in my LT1 Camaro that ran 10.80's. I was able to bypass it and run the stock ignition for the rest of the day. The car ran a best of 10.81 with the 6AL functioning properly and ran 10.89 with the stock ignition. I replaced the 6AL after the race, but I was pretty impressed with the stock ignition's performance. This was on nitrous too which is even harder on the spark.

As of May 2017 it now has a turbo LS in it! (Still looks stock though)

unless you're runnin' nitrous or blown/turboed don't worry about it.

Re: Need help with Ignition

The best ignition upgrade you can do to a stock or warmed up stocker is an HEI.

What MSD distributor do you have?

You can use a 6A box and get more spark hits per cylinder during the cycle. You don't need a 6AL as it has a rev limiter.

Re: Need help with Ignition

I'll check the distributor tomorrow when it's light. Maybe the 6A is what I was thinking
