Junk yard score

I had a little time to kill yesterday evening on my way home and stopped by a U-pull-it yard a few towns over. It was shortly before closing time, but they let me run out to see what they had for Square bodies. The second truck I found had a complete Charcoal gray interior. Of coarse the dash was cracked and the the seat had tears, but the headliner had been recently redone, had all of the trim pieces and and electric door panels, and newer carpet, all of which was in nice condition. I went back first thing this morning and pulled all of it out, and a nice gauge cluster with the clock. Within 10 minutes 1/2 a dozen guys had stopped by wanting the the parts I was pulling. So tomorrow my Custom Deluxe is getting a new interior. I just need to see if I can get the electric door panels to look right on a manual door. The window crank looks like it lines up with the hole for the power window button, or at least close enough I can make it work. I also found 2 more electric speedo clusters from 91 Suburbans with nice dash bezels, a so-so center console, and another headliner missing the material and pieced together enough trim for a whole set, will just need recoverd and the trim painted. They had a few real nice tilt columns, but didn't feel like going through the trouble to get them. I may go back next week and snatch them up if they are still there.

Re: Junk yard score

Snag the regulators and window sub harness from that truck unless someone else has gotten them.

Re: Junk yard score

Actually get anything that's in decent shape. If you don't need it, sell it to fund your truck build. Like the cab moldings, tailgate molding, emblems

Re: Junk yard score

The window motors were already gone, all of the outside moldings were either gone or just beat to heck. Thought about grabbing the door harness, but forgot about it before I left. Surprisingly, the interior was about all that was still in nice shape.

Re: Junk yard score

Well, I didn't get as much done today as I had hoped. I did get the headliner and trim pieces in. I was going to try to use the electric door panels, but don't think I can hide the holes for the window switches and make it look good. I may try to put the lower carpeted door pieces on in a little while, and the carpet and bottom trim in tomorrow. I'll try to get some before and after pics up tomorrow.

Re: Junk yard score

I had a good day at the junkyard yesterday as well. I got a straight hood with hinges for the 79 square for 50.00, a lower chrome 1980 grill trim for 2.00, a cassette 2 knob radio for 6.00 dollars and a 3rg gen Camaro steering wheel for 6.00. I should have bought the dark blue seat belts but forgot to go back and get.
