Turn down the heat a little if you can and slow down the wire just a touch that should stop the popping I assume the gun is "bouncy" that indicates the wire speed is way too fast.

Few things to try.

Change your wire size to .023 , it will help a lot .

Now that the edges are blown away you have a few choices.

1. Cut out and add in a strip to get your edges back .
2. You can use a copper spoon / bar to Remove excess heat and helps welding up holes without blowing the hole bigger.
3.Lower your heat setting and do faster faster tacks to keep the heat away from the edges. The .030 is little big for sheet metal but can work if you take your time.
