power steering failure
I usually am in the 88-98 section with my truck but my neighbor's 2000. silverado has a problem. Her power steering just quit,no noise ,fluid is full, but not moving when you look at it while running. I guess I will just replace the pump unless someone has something else I should look at first.

Re: power steering failure
Hello, I had a 2002 Silverado that broke the shaft in the power steering pump and you could not tell it was broken until I removed the pump.
Hope this helps, Jerry |

Re: power steering failure
Jerry I suspect this may be the case as it just quit so suddenly. I hope it is something like that and not something that would send debris through the system.

Re: power steering failure
Does the truck have hydro-boost for power brakes? If the P/S pump is not working and the truck has hydro-boost, then the power brakes will be compromised.

Re: power steering failure
This is almost always the problem. GM 'did' have a recall of sorts on these back in the day. One of those 'you had to ask for it' recalls. Some dealers would do it, some wouldn't. My 00 and 04 were both done for the same problem.

Re: power steering failure
I got the pump switched out all is good. The shaft on the old pump moved in and out 2 inches so something came apart inside. Thanks again for the responses.
