keys?
Has anyone ever heard of a key for a 88-up 4wd ifs front end? I was told that it is a new type of lift that gives you 2-2 1/2 inches in the front. I was also told that it was cheaper than a body lift.....I have never heard of anything like it, so if anyone knows anything about it please enlighten me.........thanks John

I'm not sure what the 'key' would be. Maybe the key is a tool to adjust the torsion bars.
Some people crank up them up to get front end raised some.

To torque the torsion bars should be a generic socket, don't recall what size but it will not give 2 - 2 1/2 inches.

had a 88 Z71 that I was able to move it up 2"...had to take it to the dealer and they had to drill out some plugs to ajust the camber...My truck might of been low to start with as my wifes Z71 tahoe was 2" taller then my truck...and after the ajustment the truck was the same...

The keys are what the torsion bars connect to in the cross member. You adjust them by turing the bolt in to go higher, and out to go lower. Generally the higher you go the stiffer the ride, and the more chance you'll snap a t-bar. You can remedy this by installing 3/4 ton or 1 ton t-bars, but Z71's come with the 3/4 standard. A trick with new body style chevy pickups is to install ford keys, with allow for more adjustment and more lift. I have heard that they can be made to work with OBS trucks, but nothing confirmed. You shouldn't add too much lift, your CV's will suffer due to more cv angle, but I guess if you don't mind changing them every 6 months, go to autozone and get yourself a lifetime guaranteed set and everytime they need replacement they are free.

I have seen companys that sell re-indexed torsion bar keys. The part that the bar keys into is rotated so that the static position of the arms is higher. This results in a stock ride without the bars being "cranked up". The CV joint is another issue.
