Bed Installation
I'm having some trouble mounting my bed. I had bought the 69 c10 longbed off of a guy on Craigslist the truck had no bed. I searched for about two months and finally found the be I have always wanted a fleetside. The problem that I'm having is that the bed sets above the body line. I have seen many people on the Forum say that the beds are interchangeable but I'm not too sure.
Bottom Line do i evidently have the wrong bed for the frame? I have pictures but i wasn't allowed to upload them or something. |

Re: Bed Installation
Pictures? Did you use new bushings for mounting the bed? There will be a major difference between using new bushings for mounting the bed and keeping the old under the cab.

Re: Bed Installation
could be the cab bushings are shot and letting the cab sit too low and make you think its the bed pics might help

Re: Bed Installation
These trucks don't have to be a "money hole " barter trade and search for the deals . Do you have all the equipment / space time and money to rebuild it ?

Re: Bed Installation
There shouldn't be bushings under the bed. Are your cross sills that the bed bolts go through sitting down on the frame? It should sit down right on them. Looks like they are up off the frame a little. Are you parked on a level pad?

Re: Bed Installation
I would bolt the bed down tight and even side to side and square and go from there. You will be able to see how far the back of the cab is down if you stand back and look at the angles of the body lines
I keep the cost down on my projects by doing things myself and having a huge reserve in parts stashed. If I need something specific or looking for another project, I will wait to come across it than look for it and try to buy. I learned a long time ago to save stuff and that you will usually find a good deal shortly after paying high for something

Re: Bed Installation
I get all of my parts from here. You will find everything that you can possibly need.
http://www.classicparts.com Gmc guy is right though. There aren't any bushings for the bed. It seems like the mounting brackets for the bed need to be pushed back a little so the bed can set down on the frame right. |

Yeah but what is also going on with the frame; I see something has been welded to it in the one picture...

Re: Bed Installation
This is a cut frame ? that's coming apart ? Stop right there it needs to come apart stop trying to put together your wasting your time , Post pictures of the rest of the truck before going any farther you may just need to STOP and reconsider your plans !!!
Everything I see in the pictures makes this truck a parts donor not a builder . |

Re: Bed Installation
It has never been cut to my knowledge, I asked the PO he had said it was put on due to the fact that it has a quarter size hole at the top. I asked why it had a hole and he replied with it previously had rust.

Re: Bed Installation
Might be time to look for a different cab... or different truck altogether.

None of that will matter if it self destructs when your driving down the road ,With the cab mounts that bad I wouldn't consider driving it anywhere .
