Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

Member Mator suggested starting a man cave/garage art thread so, we'll try it. Hopefully through this thread we can come up with some creative ways to personalize our spaces. I like to see how guys repurpose truck & auto parts such as the dash turned bar that toomuchstuff? made or the old tailgate that someone used as a headboard on their bed. So, please post up your pics & ideas! Here are a few of my man cave. Thanks!

Re: Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

I was just thinking the other day if the sheets I use on the concrete floor with the oil, grease and anti freeze stains would be appropriate for garage curtains ? What do you think ? Too much ?

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

This is the general forum. That's why it's called "General Discussion". Maybe that wall art thread was for 67-72 GM Truck wall art.

I don't do man caves. The trucks are a part of my lifestyle, that also involves the appreciation and use of many vintage to new American items made with craftsmanship and pride. My general decor is vintage stuff, from pictures, to collectibles, lamps, furniture.

Here's my Smokey The Bear and antique MC toy collection in the living room (built-in shelf):

Re: Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

I like the truck themed stuff, or the whatever floats your boat themed stuff. But I never liked the name man cave. Seems like something some wife or girlfriend came up with to appease their significant other ... Here ya go, its your little spot for your junk er man stuff, we'll call it a man cave to make you feel good.

Im probably off (its just how I feel) someone like Tim Allen probably came up with it and the ladies ran with it, then the men jumped on the band wagon hahaha

Because this is a general discussion topic not specific to 67/72 trucks. That's why we have different areas on the board. Otherwise it's just a random unorganized mess.

Re: Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

no wander half of us cant find good parts they are decorating homes across the usa.

my garage is so clutterd its hard to decipher whats decor and whats usefull junk.

the wife says my basement looks like a gm body shops scrap yard.

i have a crap load of cars an trucks lining the headers in the garage.
every now and then a line of cars will dissapear then i'll find them scattered across the yard and house.
i suppose its just the lil' varmits way of reclaiming them.

Im a big fan of yard art

Re: Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

I guess I live in a man house. Just my son and I here these days. I got into collecting the Tonkas when my two kids were done with toys. Then came Sam! I didn't want to hide everything till he got older and I was still heavy into it. I brought him up knowing the ones on the shelf were special. I'd let him play with them inside. He had his own and a 10' x 12' sandbox with deep sand.

My decor is more "stuff on display" than wall art, meaning truck parts and such, or things made from parts. When I had my shop on a farm I had an "office" partitioned off under a loft. I guess it was more like a lounge. There was a fridge and some chairs, a coffee table, even a rug on the floor! I had all the good tailgates, grilles, fenders, bumpers, and grilles covering the walls. I used a hood over the walk-in door (into the office).

Here is a corner upstairs outside my bedroom and bath. It's a cave-ish area for pretty much just 67-72 GM truck:

Before it get's too far from Christmas, here is how that inset shelf looks now. I gave all the Smokey stuff to the X.:

Re: Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

I like that "Boar's Nest" name. I have a room I think of as the "Frontier Room". I guess it's actually a parlor. It's where the fireplace is, which is dry-stack stone. I have a wood stove out in front of that. The walls are knotty cedar v-groove t&g. It's all Native American, western, primitive type stuff in there.

Hey Wasted Income, I bet he loves it. Just don't mount a horn

Re: Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

I should add that the aircraft switches in the lower left control the headlights and marker lights independently, and that there is a dimmer.

But that would be a hell of a way to wake up...like a toddler in headlights. lol

Ill play along
The barn stading
The barn being loaded into my 67
The barn lining my 5 car basement, scattered with car parts some for decoration others awaiting their turn to be used.
If you don't have 8' boards it is much easier to make a pattern like the last pic than to try to fing 2 boards the same width to from floor to celing. I spent 3/4 of the time on one wall digging through my stack of barnwood.

Very nice ,I like the barn wood and the hubcaps and signs .If I ever get another building built I want to do something similar. I never would have thought about the old roofing tin on the ceiling ,another nice touch.

Re: Decorating ideas for your garage/man cave/home

I've put a few things together in the house, garage, and shop.

The backup engine for one of my cars stands in for a coffee table in the family room. It's flanked by camshaft lamps on the end tables on either side of the sofa.

My wife collects ace of spade playing cards. I hammered out some spades, welded SBC pushrods to them, and made this coat rack for our entryway for her birthday some years back.

I keep a ever-growing shelf of carnage in the garage:

I made this droplight hanger out of a couple of Ford 3.8L rockers and a SBC pushrod.

I made my Dad a new shop clock for Christmas this year, too.
