Brake Shoe too Tight
I'm installing new brake shoes on my 69 C10 front drums the one facing the front , smaller pad is way too tight, the hold down spring is overly tight and the shoe will not even move by force, the bigger shoe facing the rear is fine, I don't know what to do, pictures soon as soon as I can do it

Re: Brake Shoe too Tight
Are the hold down pins the same length as the ones you removed

Re: Brake Shoe too Tight
Did you do one at a time? Like can you compare to the other side? I never attempt a drum brake without a working reference one... until you've done enough of them, just too many springs to go in the wrong location!
Love these mechanical solutions to complicated problems. Discs are such a simpler idea.

Re: Brake Shoe too Tight
I am doing one at the time, before the picture, I had all the springs on and felt like everything was going to blow off after I start to brake, I checked the brake shoes compared to the Old ones and they are the same, and the Pins are the same size, this is honestly frustrating me, I will Restart it all

Re: Brake Shoe too Tight
Did you replace or rebuild the wheel cyl.? If a piston is stuck it will not let it go back in. You must o-haul or replace a wheel cyl. on every brake job.

Re: Brake Shoe too Tight
The trailing shoe does not look correctly installed into anchor pin or wheel cylinder..

Re: Brake Shoe too Tight
Here are 2 pictures that may help. The first is the left front during my teardown process. The second is the right front during the rebuild process. Mine is a 3/4 ton but is basically the same as a 1/2 ton.
As stated above you have parts missing and the rear shoe is not properly seated/positioned. |
