Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

Can anybody clue me in to the differences in a 1972 C10 Custom, Custom Deluxe, and Cheyenne....
Was Custom Deluxe a step under Cheyenne and a step above the base Custom?
What came on a Deluxe that wasn't on custom or Cheyenne? Thanks

Re: Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

I keep pushing for people more knowledgeable than me to make a year/model/sub-model grid, but even offering to collect and organize the info myself it died out quickly.

For now Wikipedia is probably the closest handy source.

Re: Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

In general

Cheyenne > Custom Deluxe > Custom

But you could load the heck out of a Custom Deluxe and there were some stripped down Cheyennes so...

Re: Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

I'm surprised this isn't in the FAQ section. I've answered this many times myself. First of all, C/10 has nothing to do with it. The trim levels were offered on all C & K models 10-30. I listed them from plain to fancy showing major differences that are added as you go. In other words, the Cheyenne has what the Custom Deluxe does but adds more.

Custom: Black rubber mat/vinyl seat, painted bumpers, no mouldings

Custom Deluxe: Color coordinated rubber mat/full foam/cloth seat inserts/bright work on knobs & pedals/scroll door panels/windows, painted bumpers, lower mouldings

There's more to it, but that's a general outline. A/C, V8, AT, tilt column, etc are stand alone options. You could have a Custom with 402/TH400,A/C,tilt,AM/FM/cruise and you could have a Cheyenne Super with 250/3spd, no A/C or tilt, and an AM radio

Cheyenne: Carpet/scroll bull hide seat/woodgrain door panels/headliner, chrome bumpers, woodgrain lower mouldings/tail end trim

Cheyenne Super: Herringbone cloth seat inserts/woodgrain dash pieces, upper mouldings/woodgrain tailgate band

Re: Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

This is a copy and paste from another poster for a 1971. Don't know who it was, but credit them:

Don't know about Cheyenne Super No comprende, see below, but here are the differences according to “71 sales brochure”.

 All had L&R mirrors and disc brakes.
 Custom: Interior was vinyl, metal door panels, black floor mat. Exterior was hub caps, painted front bumper.
 Custom Deluxe: Interior was cloth & vinyl w/color keyed floor mat, lighter, dual horns, insulation and dome light switches. Exterior was everything on the Custom plus bright metal windshield, rear window moldings and chrome ventipane frames.
 Cheyenne: Interior - Deluxe all vinyl seat cover and door panels, carpet, headliner, lighter, pedal trim, insulation, dome light switches. Optional bucket seats w/console.Exterior - Everything on Custom & Custom Deluxe Plus: Cheyenne nameplates; chrome front bumper, cargo light, bright lower body & side moldings, fuel filler cap & tailgate trim.

All Cheyennes and Supers will have:
 Wood grain on door panels
 Headliner
 Cargo lights
 Stainless around window trim
 Deluxe knobs interior
 Chrome front bumper
 Wood grain lower molding
 Wood grain tailgate band with upper tailgate molding and tail light bezels.
 Deluxe marker lights.

Note: Some of these items were standard on custom & custom deluxe and special promo trucks, while some other were optional. A headliner was not an option for Custom/Custom Deluxe.

Cheyenne Super is highest trim level package for 71/72 Chevy. The differences between Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super are:

 Wood grain on the gauge bezel
 Glove box door aluminum with wood grain
 Emblem on glove box door
 “Super” emblems on the fender.

Re: Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but say K.........know if some 71 Custom Deluxe came W upper moldings? I'd think they'd have to if four tone whoops two-tone deluxe.

Re: Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

Yes, Custom Deluxe trucks could come with factory upper trim. That's what most of the Highlander trucks I have seen were, plus a lot of trucks I have seen in salvage yards over the years. Trevor

Re: Custom, deluxe, cheyenne?

Deluxe two-tone mandated upper trim on Custom Deluxe and Cheyenne. Both upper and lower mandated on Custom with that two-tone.

I kept my breakdown simple. There are many more minor differences. The descriptions in post #5 are more detailed, while making room for inaccuracy and redundancy. Bucket seats were available on all but Custom Deluxe. I could never figure out that one. Custom Deluxe had the cloth inserts and buckets only came in vinyl. But...a Cheyenne Super had cloth and GM just put all vinyl buckets in those. Why not do that for Custom Deluxe? On a '72 the seat and door panels would match. Cheyenne has scroll seat covers but GM covered the scroll on door panels with woodgrain and Cheyenne Supers show no scroll at all
