heater
I have just found out that the heater core and ranco valve are both toast on my '53, and I was going to use them both. Anyone have success with aftermarket heaters or even ones from other years?

Not an AD but on my 59 when the valve and core went back, I took the core to radiator jobber who found one similar size. I modified the in and out fitting to match firewall holes and used a manual valve in the intake hose to regulate the water flow.

Vintage air has a couple of compact universal heaters that run about 250 unless you find a deal by Doing a Google search on the part number. They have the top one on Amazon prime. http://www.vintageair.com/2015%20Cat...talog%2051.pdf
I saw a thread on adapting an off the shelf heater core the other day but don't remember how to find it. That requires getting your measurements and getting into a heater core book and searching for the best option. One more alternative is having a radiator shop put a new core in using your ends if they are good. Around here real radiator shops are getting scarce though. As far as a valve goes there is one that fits Ford Broncos and other Fords that doesn't cost much and is cable operated. Classic parts lists a replacement core. It's not cheap for sure at $170. You may also look up Mothertrucker he may have one. On mine I had a good core but still needed to replace the motor with a 12V. The expense was worth it as it works great and looks correct.
