Front spring fiasco :(
So I'll start off with a picture.
This truck has CPP modular spindles and 2" drop springs. CPP's catalog is loaded with misinformation. I can't even tell if the spindles are 2" or 2.5" drop. Anyway, it's too low in front @ 4"-4.5". Tire size is 275/40/20 So a couple days ago I send it to someone that can align it for me and swap out the springs. I went with ECE 1" drop springs. Well, now the truck sits even lower and I've got some decent inner fender rub. The CPP springs have their code on them 2" drop. The ECE springs say nothing but the box says 1" drop. Even still, ECE's most aggressive front drop spring is 2". How the hell do I manage this? MAN I'm sooooooo bummed after getting it back. I don't know if I should contact ECE or even what to say. I think they are the only ones that offer a 1" drop spring. In contrast, the rear is 4" spring plus 1" block. please help

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
one more
I had the choice of lowering the back 1" or raising the front 1". Since I don't like babying things, I wanted to go up an inch. Well..... that hasn't worked out.

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
When I dropped mine I ordered from ECE. I did 2.5" spindles, and decided to try 1" springs in the front. and 5" springs in the back.
back turned out great, it is a long bed so actually used 4" but the extra weight gives it a little more drop. When I did the front it was way to low and the stock steel wheels with 225/75x15 tires rubbed. I called ECE and talked to them and the guy asked me to email them a couple pics and measurements. He said they see 1 or 2 trucks a year that sit low in the front and they have no idea why. They sent me out a set of stock height springs with a return label to send back the other springs. The stock height springs gave me the height I wanted and have been perfect for almost 2 years now. As for alignment I got tired of paying shops $200 a pop to get it wrong so I bought a bubble level alignment tool and dd my homework, now with power steering i can run down the highway at 70 with no hands on the wheel. |

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
The CPP are listed as 2.5 spindles, these are the same ones I have. You then added 2" drop springs, which seems like it put you right where you stated at 4 to 4.5" drop.
I am assembling mine with the CPP 2.5 spindles and the CPP 1" drop springs for a nice drop of 3 to 3.5". Check the CPP site they have a 1" spring as well. Also give CPP a chance to help you, I have had great service from them. P.S. the truck sits good in the photo. |

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
I added the air lift bags in my 71. The tires would scrub on bad dips and bumps in the road. I installed the helper bags and run 20lbs in each one. Truck rides great with no scrubbing no matter how bad it is now.

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Here is my truck after the ECE springs lol
I am 14-14.25" from the center of the wheel to the wheel well. Also, this measurement is with about 5 miles of use only, no break in yet. The pictures above are zero miles, but have had full weight for about a year now. (I scratch my head at how different this has come out. All I read about is a 4/6 drop being perfect, or even a 5/7 drop and still running inner wells. I wish I was 1.5" higher than I am right now)

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Easy, yank the springs and replace them with 1 inch drop springs.

top picture is with CPP 2" drop latest picture is with ECE 1" drop I'm guessing, with the 1" springs, I'm about 1/2" lower than I was with the 2" drop lol figuring it out, already been on phone with ECE if anyone is curious, I'm 14-14.25" from the center of my wheel to the fender. I think ECE said I should be around 16.5" with my spindle and spring combo HAHAHA That would be better yes.

I think ECE sent you the wrong spring.

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Unfortunately I don't have room for anything extra. Hell, my extra glass and doors are stored at my work lol I should have gone CPP, since I already knew what their 2" drop was like, I'm just very frustrated with them and rather not buy their stuff again.

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Could the extra drop be coming from the aftermarket control arms?

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Was talking about that with ECE also. It might be, but CPP's website doesnt mention any change to stock diamensions other than improved caster. However, it wouldnt be a first for them to be wrong.
Problem though, this is a direct comparison between springs. Nothing else was changed for these pictures. ECE said, if everything is correct, that using the stock height spring should only bring me back up an inch. Its not enough now. So as nice and understanding as Steve was over the phone, I think we came to a conclusion that a refund would be best and to order new springs from CPP. (as much as I dont want to)

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
ECE is ~ 230 miles from me, received my front springs the very next day after ordering
CPP is ~30 miles from me, 4-5 day expected shipping time because while they are in stock, it wont leave for 2-3 days. ECE 1 CPP 0 lol (I don't go to pick them up because too busy, also working Sat, during the week would take me over an hour one way)

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Still don't have springs from a company 30 miles from my house. Every time I deal with CPP I'm disappointed. So F***ing pissed right now. They said they are in stock, I call them fuking liars. 6 business days plus a saturday and I don't have them. Wish Summit had their springs, could have had them by now. Holding up everything that still needs to be done.

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Dammit, I just found their springs on Summit. I looked them up by name and only saw their shocks and some of their chassis stuff. I looked up drop springs, without using their name, and BAM there they are. I shoulda woulda coulda ordered from Summit.

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Just got my springs , hope fully install this week I will try to get measurements for you , truck is a 67 c10 , I think previous owner had c20 or 4x4 springs installed it is high and stiff , he did tell me he replaced them recently , ship time is sloooooow
with supposedly stock springs , it measures 20 3/16 from center of hub to fender lip , that's 6 inches difference from yours , mine must be realy high and yours realy low , now I'm really curious to see what 1 inch lowering springs do for me , would not be surprised if its more drop

Re: Front spring fiasco :(
Just got off phone with CPP. They now claim to be behind in shipping department. Still claim they are in stock. Wont ship out till Mon-Tues. Told them to cancel order.
Called Summit to make sure NV warehouse has them in stock, they do. Should be at my DOOR by Mon-Tues. Plus free shipping. All this time lost and I don't even know if the ride hieght will be correct. Trying to make a show Mar 6th, lots of stuff to do
