Post polishing ideas

I am in the middle of polishing all of the aluminum A/C lines under the hood. I have been using a combination of steel wool, very fine grit sand paper and a dremel with polishing pads. So far the dremel has proved to be more trouble than what it is worth, does anyone have any ideas? I would like to get rid of most of the pitting and have it shine like chrome but it sure is time consuming the way I have been at it.

Try Nevrdull, available at your local hardware store. Works like a champ on aluminum.

Noxon (sp) I think it's called also works never well (atleast it does on chrome!)

Polishing is never an easy task, and definitely not easy when you are starting with something was not polished in the first place. Yes, lots of albow grease is a must and goes hand and hand with polishing from my experience.

I have used Mothers wheel polish, Never Dull and many others and had great luck with them all but I'm another HUGE fan of Wenol. That stuff is great and helps to reduce the elbow grease part of polishing

Well I head out tommorrow for some wenol,how about getting the minor pitts out of the metal. Seems like the more shine the more the imperfections show up. I did some checking on motorized, high speed polishers at all the local stores (House of tools, Princess Auto, Bumper to Bumper) and no luck.
The dremel would work if I could get good Quality buffing wheels but I dont think they make a good industrial buffer for it.

Pits in the metal will not be easy. You will just need to sand the metal in those areas as much as possible to get rid of most of the pits. When I polished my wheels, I used a 6" buffing wheel that mounts on an arbor and chucks up in my 14.4v Makita cordless. This worked really well for me but polishing A/C lines would not require something that large. Maybe a 4" buff would work best for you. Just try to stay away from "loose buffs" as they will not last as long and tend to fall apart in a hurry. You could try something like this: http://www.eastwoodco.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe

My Wenol guy carries all kinds of buffing wheels and pads. He tells me for pitting to just put a gob of Wenol red on it and leave it for 20/30 minutes, then buff. Will be trying on a wheel where a wheel weight sat for a while. He's always been right so far.
