Re: bumper guard install
I have the original instructions. I'm sick in bed but will try to get out and take a pic of them for you.

Here you go. Hopefully the board doesn't resize it too small!

Re: bumper guard install
I didn't know I had to drill a hole in the bumper though

Re: bumper guard install
I don't think you would have to on the 71-72 tall versions. I've removed several of them over the years and there wasn't any extra holes.

Re: bumper guard install
Always happy to help a veteran, and it only took 3 minutes!
As for drilling the hole, you do on the '70. I mocked up an install using the supplied bracket and a rare earth magnet, which seemed to work - but I wasn't going to be drilling any holes. Ultimately I decided not to install them, since I thought it didn't enhance the look of my particular truck. Not sure how well it would have held up. I also grabbed a set of "rubber door edge guard" to use as an edge protection so that it didn't scrape up the bumper underneath.

Re: bumper guard install
I've got a 71 c20 and ordered new bumper guards and chrome front bumper from classic Chevy and I installed mine today using just the single bolt provided. It did not line up at all. Tomorrow I will be drill holes in the bumper for the bottom bolt.

Re: bumper guard install
There were two styles for bumper guards...67/70 and 71/72. The earlier ones are shorter, all chrome, and mount outside of the frame where Dave's instructions show. The 71/72 style mount at bumper mounting location at end of frame. When mounting the 67-70 style in the inward location (same as 71/72) they will fit better with a little careful grinding.
Those 71/72 guards just bolt up where the bumper does on the frame ends

Re: bumper guard install
You should have a bracket that just hooks to the bottom of the bumper. If not, they are easy to make.
Let me see if I can remember how to post a pic.....

Re: bumper guard install
Here is an old saved picture from our archives to go with Tims above post about the different bumper guard styles, it also shows your missing brackets. We do have NOS bumper guards on hand in the parts stash so if you think that you are in need yet, I could get you some pics of the mounting instruction sheet your style. Let me know, Mel.

Re: bumper guard install
Just so you know, I have had no problem running the 71/72 style w/o the bottom bracket. If the bolt through the bumper is good and tight, as it should be, the guards will stay in place just fine. Might want to take a look every now and then to see if they've been bumped. The brackets are simple enough to make, yet I never got around to it on the truck I ran w/o them

Re: bumper guard install
Thanks Mel. I'll take a pic of the instructions if you don't mind.
Tim, did you use both bolts on the guards to the frame?

Re: bumper guard install
Like Tim said, the bottom bracket is not really necessary, but I have always made one 'just because' They will mount using only the bottom carriage bolt from the front of the bumper.
I am also curious to see the instructions from Mel to see what they say. Just because I've always done it one way don't mean it's right!
