What is this plug and where does it go?

Hey guys, getting ready to for paint and saw this electrical plug under the steering wheel. Right where the steering shaft goes threw the firewall. I do not see where it mounts to or what it even is. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

That is your neutral safety switch. It mounts to the column about where you found it. You should find the square hole and the two screw holes in that area.

That looks like the neutral safety switch. It mounts to the steering column.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Is that also the back-up light switch? If so can your Neutral Safety Switch function properly and your back up lights not work?

Yes. it's two circuits in one that works off the gear tit in the column. The piece in his hand has screws that you adjust on the column to set it by. It can get out of position and either one may are may not work.

Re: What is this plug and where does it go?

That's REAL interesting. I haven't had back-up lights since I was a a young buck. Figured to get it right with the rebuild. Will be taking a good look at that switch, and the screw adjustment I can't visualize at this point.

Once you install it on the column it will have some slop in it. Take and get the neutral first and then see if the lights work when in reverse.

The silver tips with the screw holes are slotted for adjusting it.

Re: What is this plug and where does it go?

I have search 4 times and can not find a hole or opening in the lower part of the steering column. This is the steering wheel that is on it. Is this the original one?

Re: What is this plug and where does it go?

Should be just 2 screw holes, I believe that is not the original steering wheel but don't know the year of your truck.

Question Re: What is this plug and where does it go?

Has it been changed over to a straight drive?

That is a late 70's 80's model steering wheel. The opening should be on top of shaft towards the floor.

Re: What is this plug and where does it go?

Hey Andy, this is a 1972 Blazer. Has been messed with but the SPID says it was a Auto. In that picture what year is the steering column on the left? It does not have a hole at the bottom of the shaft for the switch. Looks like it is higher closer to the steering wheel. As mine has no screw holes or anything close to the firewall.

Should there be a part number stamped in on this column?

Re: What is this plug and where does it go?

I looked at that link. Looks like this might be a column out of a van. Some what they said the van columns did not have a spot for the NSS. Looks like I need to buy this switch that mounts to the trans.

Thanks for that link it saved a lot of searching!
